For ninja's have you thought of upping the points then allowing one unit to setup hidden , when they make their  first attack ( must be in initiative?) it counts  as  flank/rear attack, after that they act as normal troops
If I were creating Pendraken I wouldn't mess about with Romans and  Mongols  I would have started with Centurions , eight o'clock, Day One!

We actually playtested that but it didn't "feel" right: more like Warhammer than Warmaster.  Feel free to give it a whirl though :-)

Being a WM convert I struggle to not go too mad with army lists in terms of too many additional rules and number of units.

Let's see, for example:

Troop      Type      Attack   Hits   Armour   Comm   Unit Size   Points   Min/Max   Special
Peasants      Infantry   4    3   3   0   -   3   30      1/-    *1

I do not know what is 4

Attack: 3
Hits: 3
Armour 0
Comm -
Unit size 3
Points 30
Min/max 7/-
Special*1

You've got version 1...scroll down and get V3  :-bd

The first version had the number of units I actually possess (emailed to a friend and forgot to delete them).

That resolve the mistery.

Here it goes my comments. They are made in a positive way and as a contructive criticisim.

1) 13 entries seems IMHO too much for a warmaster list. It could be OK if all the entries are necessary to get the mood of the list.
- So, are peasant entry needed to be an arm of a samurai army? could the concept be merged with ashigaru?
- 3 cavalries. 1 dog + 2 samurais. Why is needed to make a differenciation of mounted samurais and naginata samurais? If it is only to introduce a elite cavalry... Need that list an elite cavalry?

2) Famous hero: so cool the concept, but I would not face an army with 7 characters causing terror. I think I will not have fun in that game. Could be a little bit unbalanced?

3) Kensai, why they are monsters? It is OK for me to be Saint swordmen as manga macho men, very proud and cause fear, but have +1 charge in open for monster I see it too much.

4) Akita: They are dogs. It is ok 2 dice attack, but why do they have an aditional +1 in open?  That means that a dog charge +2 in open, would be similar as a monster modifier as dragon ogres or spawn of chaos.

This comments does not mean I do not like the list. I think it is great!!. They are made only for talking about your work and warmaster.

If any suggestion is accepted I would do:
1) Remove naginata samurai entry and peasent
2) Famouse hero limited to -/1 --> this base could be represented with 7 figures in terms of play
3) The special is OK, but goes to the category of infantry
4) Akita, drop the special the stats are ok

good work get2grips

All good  :)

I agree with pretty much most of this, especially the number of units but...

We've played a lot of games with these and they take as many kickings as they give.

DO NOT use them in a tournament style game.

Thanks for the feedback  :-bd

I just finished (about 6 months ago) a Samurai army for Warmaster, based on the Nippon army selector found on the trial armies supplement on the Specialist Arms forums.  I took it to the playtest weekend in Bergen op Zoom in the Netherlands.  There was not one Nippon army there, but two.  Both of us Nippon players found that the trial army list was not competitive.

(By the way, JChaos, I was sad to see that you weren't there!  It would've been great to meet you in person!)

So now I have all these units painted up (at least 21!), bit am not so inclined to play with them.  I look forward to trying your army list, Get2Grips, and seeing how it plays.

Despite not having played your list yet, I do have some comments:  Ninjas don't necessarily need to be a battlefield unit.  They could be an option for character that causes either a command penalty within 20 cm of the character, or could force an enemy character to join a friendly unit if touched by a character that has a ninja retinue.  My other thought was this:  Rename the Troll entry to Oni -- keep the rules and stats the same.  Last, I do want Foo Dogs in the list.

Thank you very much for sharing this list!  I look forward to trying it out!!

Thanks Ed...love the Oni idea :-bd

As for ninjas, I like 'em as infiltrators but I did toy with the idea of using them like skirmishers (to add to the break point of a unit).

Thanks for the feedback; let me know how the battles go ;)
