I have seen/heard the same thing with the Royal Navy off Ireland and Australia
If I were creating Pendraken I wouldn't mess about with Romans and  Mongols  I would have started with Centurions , eight o'clock, Day One!

Seen it before too ... still funny.

First time I remember it, it was being told about a Weegie lighthousekeeper on Little Cumbrae and a toff admiral on HMS Victorious - which dates both me and the joke!

Silva, the Sweden-based manufacturer of marine navigational equipment, borrowed the joke for an ad in 2004.



Apparently variations of this joke have been around since the 1930s.  I knew it was old but didn't realise it was that old.
