Here's some pics from my blog of some guys I just finished up.They are from the 10mm Pendraken Falklands range, using Brit SAS and Argentinian Special Forces. I painted them up (rather garishly in some cases) as wearing civilian clothes with a bit of military kit.
In Cuba Libre I envision using these for:
-CLA Special Operations forces (in urban/clan scenarios)
-CLA Popular Forces (recently raised militia in the fight for liberation)
-Drug Cartels
-Hezbollah during the two incursions into Lebanon, as well as in Syria and CT ops worldwide
-Sadr militia during OIF
-IRGC for OEF, OIF, Syria, and CT ops worldwide
-Taliban for OEF (Afghan and Pakistan)
-Insurgent/Militia/Warlord hangers on for Somalia/Rwanda/Liberia
-Al Qaeda for OEF (Afghan, Pakistan, CT ops worldwide)
And those are just the ones I know of! Of course, they will be used wherever and whenever I think they're appropriate. Here's the pics:

I'm sure they're not the most beautiful things, and I was scared for a bit when I was about halfway through painting them, but I'll tell you, I'm happy with how they turned out and I think they'll work perfectly for what I need them to do. I mean, tell me those guys can't be Spec Ops guys anywhere in the world, or Cartel in Central America, or Hezbollah/IRGC in Lebanon. Maybe a stretch for Iraq and Afghanistan, but I think they'll be close enough for me (though I do have some good looking Taliban from Minifigs).

Next up on the paintbench is some Castro-regime forces.

Those work well Jack  , nicely done but maybe a wash to break up the colour blocks?

    I haven't been using washes because when I used them in the past they tended to make my figures too dark (at gaming distance).  I'm photographing them at way too close to show the detail, with the camera's flash on, so I'm never happy with the photos as they look much brighter than in real life (and you can see my lack of talent with the paintbrush), but for me they look right on the table.  The one exception possibly being my US Vietnam guys (you can see them on my blog under "10mm Moderns"), which, even in 'real life' are way too bright, so I'm going to test out a wash on one of them to see how it works out.

Try watering/thinning down the wash a little Jack, if you're worried about them looking too dark.
But as Lemmey says....they work absolutely fine....and if you're happy with them. ....That's the main thing.
They look particularly neat, so don't put your painting skills down Matey.

In support of my "Cuba Libre" ImagiNation project, I got some forces painted up and based, and some just painted up (couldn't base them because I ran out of pennies!). I used Pendraken Argentinians for my Castro-regime forces, and US Vietnam range for my Cuban Liberation Army regulars and Airborne. Here's a couple photos:

Nice work.

I too would recommend a wash. I make up my own, from 50% future floor polish, 50% water, with a few drops of brown Winsor and Newton artist's Ink in about 25-30ml of water/future. This seems to bring out the detail, without dirtying everything up too much.

The GW washes I have found can be far too strong in 10mm and seem to act more like a stain than a wash.

Those are cool. Like the idea a lot!
