This time regarding flourescent (how do you spell that then ?) yellow jackets.

The silver haired Mother-In-Law swears blind she saw on the TV the other day that it was illegal to wear these in England, unless you were either a Policeman, Fireman, Doctor or Council Worker.

Eh ?

I've heard of certain jackets which have been sold with the blue and white reflective 'check' on them being frowned upon, if worn by members of the public, as they do resemble some of the emergency services jackets......But plain yellow ones ?.......Surely not ?
Any clues where she's got this bit of 'info' from.....Or did she fall asleep and miss something relevant in the programme.

Your thoughts ?

Hi-Vis in yellow are used all over the place - had to wear one in the yard of a warehouse.

True whilst driving on the continent carrying hi-vis jackets is mandatory.

It is recommended in the UK that this is done but not yet law

What Nosher said. You get fined if you do not have a hi-vis. In Italy for example you must put them in the glove compartment as well. Damned carabiniere had me unload the whole boot 

Down our street is a shop that seems to sell nothing but hi-vis: yellow, orange & green. Drove past there one day and was nearly blinded by their window display.

'Course it is F....Safety googles, Crash hat, Reinforced boots...Not to mention the 'chain-saw' gloves.....Though they're a bit of a swine, as the fingers are rather on the fat side, which makes holding the dental tools a bit tricky.

In Spain is obligatory to carry two waistcoat of this material, just in case you need to leave the vehicle in the highway because for any emergency.

Never heard about this material is illegal (at leas in the Peninsula)

Definitely not illegal to wear, everyone on any port/docks wears them, loads of people on building sites, even our courier bloke wears one when he comes to collect packages.  We have some in the Pendraken van for when we're travelling to the Crisis show in Belgium.

I knew it sounded mad...
I just don't know where she gets some of these ideas.....
