FPW test game

Gentlemen,
I have added a link showing a FPW test game to try out the rules that we played a couple of weekends ago.

All Pendraken figures using an adaptation of the Snappy Nappy rules. (And I know the Brits get their chuckles over the Nappy part, having seen a large discussion on another forum).  The original rules are for one day Napoleonic campaigns as well as tactical fights.  I have adapted it to the FPW and call it Sappy Nappy.

We had 10 players and myself as umpire.  Only 2 of the group had played the rules before but got into the game quickly.  We made some modifications as we gamed and will try them out next time.

For others of our games, see www.warsweb.com, although this is the only 10mm Pendraken game.  I have another in the web list using my 6mm Napoleonics.

I don't post here much but am addicted to the forum and the personalities.  Where do you all get the time for all the posts?

I've been gaming since the 60's after reading Morshauser's "How to play Wargames".  Much lead and books since then.

Very nice looking game, and great that you were able to get 10 players :).

Excellent!    Multiplayer games are great fun, and the battles of 1870 really lend themselves to this sort of approach.  Great looking game.

Looks great...What are the snappy nappy rules like?..
If I were creating Pendraken I wouldn't mess about with Romans and  Mongols  I would have started with Centurions , eight o'clock, Day One!

Snappy Nappy is an Operational game that moves quickly.  Both TMP and On Military Matters (www.onmilitarymatters.com) have good descriptions (although TMP has a bit of out of date information on the rules as currently written).  The designer notes at On Military Matters give a good overview.

Units of 2 stands are essentially brigades.  Artillery for the Napoleonic version represent 24 guns.  In my version I use 2 guns on a stand which represents 2 batteries or 12 guns, but the guns are more lethal during the FPW.  Musket range for Napoleonics is 1", but Chassepot fire out to 8" (150 yards to the inch).

Google it and you can get a better feel for it.  The old MWAN magazine (US) had several campaign reports which I found fascinating and wanted to try it.  So far I have only done tactical battles to get our group familiar with my adaptation.  The campaigns are fought over several tables, situated in different directions to represent the fog of war.  I believe Russ Lockwood, the designer, has had up to 7 tables.

That does look like a great game - and a lot of fun with 10 generals!

(You've labelled it "15mm" though in your title banner... ;))

An interesting game and, by the look of it, a good time was had by all - which is what it's all about.  :)
When you realise we're all mad, life makes a lot more sense.
