Cheers chaps,  Herts and Nik, i think your right, very difficult to copy someones work, i think this will be my greatest painting challenge. I'll let you know how i get on.

I would also like to do the later 30 years war French and Spanish era (Conde/Turrenne) and the Spanish Fronde, the latter a sort of inbetween war betrween Spain and France.

It does seem that military fashions were steadily changing during this time with real men insisting you need very large cuffs towards the end. Does any one know the time period when large cuffs became common?  :-\ The point being that if it was in the 1650's then the L-of-A matchlock and pike figures in hats will be useful. I think the cavalry will be perfect.

Any thoughts ? :)

Thank's for all the comments chaps, definitely going with the lighter base colour.  i'm becoming addicted to LoA, looks like i'll be spending more money than i thought  :).
