Love the overarm thrust pose. How about a Japanese in that position too? It's illustrated often enough.

These are very nice figures (along with the rest of the late Romans)

What can't be seen in the photos is that the rider's bodies are separate from the horse (which has the riders legs cast on), this allows you to position the riders slightly differently to give a bit more variety in the units, with the minimum of assembly.

Quick question: the Late Roman clibinarii and cataphracts, have stirrups?

clibinarium

Nope stirups were unkown to the Romans as far as I am aware.

Phobos

Interestingly, they were likely to be known to the Romans but not used by them.

The Sarmatians certainly used them (apparently to aid both horse archery and the use of the kontos) so the Romans are likely to have encountered stirrups used by these adversaries.

However, there's no evidence as yet that the Romans adopted stirrups in favour of the treed saddle.

These are great models, would these be possible models for Sarmations? I have a hoard of Dacians to paint up but the Sarmation models from the Dacian range aren't the best and is causing me to postpone the project.

Any chance of see them compared in size with the new carthaginian cavalry?

fred.

I don't have the Cartho Cavalry, but I do have some of the new Romans that Techno also made, the Clibinarii are on smaller horses, but are slightly bigger riders.

Thanks a lot! I think roman horses are slightly taller than carthos ones, which are way to weird for my taste.

A couple of photos to try to compare the size of the late Roman Cavalry and the new Republican Romans

Comparing my Kontos armed figures to Leon's - I have a question about the positioning of the spear - should it always be pointing straight ahead, even it this twists the rider round? I am particularly looking at the left hand two cataphracts in the overhead shot.
