Apparently according to someone on TMP George  Osbourne announce that they UK Government will be spending money to restore the Waterloo battlefield in time for the 200th anniversary
If I were creating Pendraken I wouldn't mess about with Romans and  Mongols  I would have started with Centurions , eight o'clock, Day One!

Interesting, but how do they intend to do that? :-\

Could be linked to the Hougomont restoration project Prof Richard Holmes was campaigning for not so long ago, but beyond that, unless I'm mistaken the battlefield is largely unchanged, apart from a little movement of earth to build the lion mound monument.

I'm intrigued.

Does the answer to this conundrum lie in the sentence "according to tmp..."? Believe whats posted 99% of the time there and its a slippery slope!!!

Yep, just read that it was a 'joke' by Osborne trying to draw parallels between the coalition victory on the field and the current political coalitions victory over labour in the last election.
Seems a bit of canned laughter is needed, whilst there's a strained parallel, it's a bit dry, but then political humour tends to be.

Why are we footing the cost? we were not alone on the field on the day.Napoleon had to be stopped for the good of most of europe, were the Germans not there among others.Yes it needs presserving, but its up to european nations to share the cost.lets remember its in Belgium, not London(alright Belgium didnt exist then, but it wouldnt of done if Napoleon hadnt lost).

Luddite

Why would it need preserving?

Does that include Cameron and Osbourne volunteering as british casualties? Just asking...
