Not sure where to put this (be nice!), 'cos it kind of spans all periods from the ACW onwards.

I'd like some trains - and track. Western puffers, romantic Edwardian carriages, menacing armoured trains of WWII.

I'm also taken by the Pendraken corvette (I've christened mine HMS Pansy), but would like some MGB's or similar. Whilst we're on that, a Flower Class corvette was 205ft long, and HMS Victory is 225 ft long ... hmmm. Are you all thinking what I'm thinking? Raiding parties of black faced commandos slipping ashore from their MGBs to destroy a coastal railway line while the escorting corvette hovers anxiously off shore; a roused German garrison! Will the Neubaufahrzeug get into action before the British slip away taking a number of civilians and their rare Norwegian cattle with them?

Meanwhile a century and a half earlier and in the Carribbean, British marines in a flotilla of ships boats glide into the Spanish port on a cutting out expedition, but Senor Dago is alert and the boats come under accurate fire from the shore batteries. The British Admiral, alarmed and annoyed by this unexpected resistance takes his 64 in to slug it out. Spanish infantry are hampered in their progress to the dockside by the fleeing civilians with their goats, sheep and rare Norwegian cattle. A ships cat becomes a casualty.

A quiet French village. A Sunday in early summer. The bells in the small church calls the faithful to prayer. Suddenly from around the bend in the river comes a fearful dragon headed ship! Soon what appears to be a horde of giant Norse warriors, a perfect vision from Hell are among the villagers: killing the women, ****** the men, setting fire to the poultry! A tonsured monk tries to avaunt the evil with prayer and a raised cross. He is swiftly despatched, and the warriors commandeer local carts to haul away their booty, including slaves, barrels of cider and the villagers prized rare Norwegian cattle.

But trains would be good too.

Trains could be easy. Since 10mm is about 1/150 scale, it's a pretty good match with N scale railroad stuff. And there were some Del Prado plastic locos made some time ago that are still very easy to find on eBay.

Thanks for this.

The problem for me is the track. Costs a fortune! Anyone got any suggestions?

I found some being sold off for about 70p a 5" length but there are other lots available. Here are 4" lengths for £1.50 (free postage) - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Minitrix-Straight-Track-104-2mm-14904-/150932601194?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item232448b96a. Must go back and restart construction of the rail gun  :D.

Might be a completely off the wall idea......But does anyone produce track sections in resin, in different scales ?
Maybe it wouldn't really be cost effective to manufacture. :-\
Just a thought.

I think I've seen some resin track sections years ago, but it was more expensive that model railway track. Look out for a model railway exhibition in you area, there is almost always a 'bring and buy' where people are trying to sell off old/damaged track that is perfectly servicable for wargaming.

Cheap rolling stock can often be found at exhibition and E-Bay as mentioned. As OldenBUA mentioned, Del Prado are the best bet for locomotives unless you can find a broken one on E-Bay.

I like the idea of more ships. Recently I've been looking for Viking Longships for an up coming project .... I'm sure someone used to do a resin one in 10mm, but darned if I can find out who at the moment. MGBs and MTBs would also be welcome.

Cheers,

The Square do 10x110mm track in resin, cost me £4.50 last May. I'll post a pic if you llike. Track spacing is 9.5mm.

Total System Scenic also do very nice track sections, but the spacing is 12mm - too big for 10mm(-ish) I think. And a lot more expensive.

I know this may sound odd, but I've always shied away from using these materials because ... well they're meant for railway buffs. It's almost contaminating a wargames table with stuff from those odd people who play with toy trains.

I may just have to grit my teeth and have a go.

Thank you gentlemen.

Buy N Scale flexible lengths then you don't have to bother with curve and straight sections. A couple of 3' lengths should keep your trains running across many a tabletop battlefield and only cost £3 each.

Go along to a nearby model railway show and pick up huge lengths of second-hand track. I got about 15 feet at the London Model Railway Festival for £13. You'll probably also want the foam-rubber ballasting underlay to go with the track.
