Wargaming In History Volume 8: The Austro-Prussian War Of 1866: The Opening Battles
Drewienkiewicz, J & Brentnall, A

In this volume, the authors provide a detailed and highly informed history of the opening battles, with the usual overwhelmingly impressive wargames, covering Gitschin, Trautenau, Nachod and Skalitz. These are fought with Fire & Fury rules, carefully amended (with suitable authority!) for the armaments of the period. These amendments are included, as well as orders of battle, wargaming orders of battle, studies of the battlefields today, and if that doesn't overwhelm you, another crop of superb uniform plates by Bob Marrion.

This one has been mentioned elsewhere on the Forum, but I thought it was worth giving our very own Mollinary a bit of a plug seeing as he co-wrote it!  We'll be picking up a copy at Salute, and hopefully we can talk him into signing it for us!

Mollinary sent me some pics from the book, so I've just added them to the top post.

The only sad thing is that the second photo down shows the only non Pendraken figure unit in the book - a Perrin figures Prussian Guard cavalry brigade!  In my defence, it should be replaced the "proper" figures by the end of the year.  For the truly observant among you, the white stuff on the ground in the photo of an Austrian Brigade at game strength is real snow - we had to go outside to get the light, and the British weather triumphed.    These are all "posed" photos to serve particular purposes in parts of the book, the vast majority of pictures in the book are, in fact, pictures taken during the re-fight of the battle described in the text. They are, therefore more like the few Jicin photos I put up some months ago when we started out on this project. Many thanks to Leon for  putting the photos up, and for the plug in the newsletter (psst, the cheque is in the post! ;) ;)).

I notice the epic size cliff in rear of the first phot. I know the valleys in Bohemia caused manoeuvre problems, but they look awesome in that pic. :o

Awesome indeed!   I wondered about that myself, but our magic camera man Adam Poole, insisted it worked better for these photos taken outside if he didn't have a brick wall as background.   :-\ :-\  That particular photo shows my Saxons, set out as a corps for the Real Time Wargames rules "Trapped like a Fox".

Very nice Andrew, I look forward to seeing the book, congratulations.
Don't buy your daughters a pony, buy them heroin instead, its cheaper and ultimately less addictive.

Thanks Cam, much appreciated.  I hope you will enjoy it - who knows, if enough people buy it Richard Brown, our publisher, may allow us to take it onto Koniggratz in a new volume.  If so, watch out, I'll be after that copy of Heidrich's book on the Swiepwald!  Sorry we won't see you at SALUTE.  :'( :'( :'(

I don't think my wife likes me very much, when I had a heart attack she wrote for an ambulance.

Hi Nosher,

I have answered this over on the other thread where you asked it, but I think it will be helpful to repeat the answer on this thread, the title of which is, perhaps, rather clearer.  The answer is a very clear yes.  The book is published by Ken Trotman books, run by Richard Brown, and they will be the first to have copies available for order, and they will have them on their stand at SALUTE.  I believe they will also be available in the USA from OMM.  Happy to answer any other questions you may have.
