I've just been on the canal ferry-boat, showing a Polish guest around Bangkok. As ever, I was deeply impressed by the courage and determination of the conductors, clambering around on the cat-walk outside to sell us tickets. Truly did Dryden observe it: None but the brave deserve the fare.
