Hi,
how do you base your WWII aircrafts in order to move them in the "sky" of your tabletop?  :-\
thanks

I take it you're referring to 10mm/144th aircraft? For plastic kits I believe most people use the bases supplied. For metal versions it usually requires drilling a hole in the model and using thick garden wire or small-bore aluminium or brass tubing. Alternatively, thick clear plasticard can be made up into "cradle" type stands if you want them to be interchangeable.

If you want a more scenic approach, there was a demo game that went the convention rounds some years ago that used a diving rocket-firing Typhoon. The model was actually supported on stiff wire that ran down through the smoke-trails of the rockets. Very effective and quite spectacular.

Plastrut used to do clear perspex circular section rod, which was great. For multi use stands rare earth magnets and steel rod works. Expandable car areils- again if you can find em..

Trick is to make the base heavy enough, without being too intrusive.

You could always try and hunt down  some GW clear flying bases that they used to use on hawks, terradons etc....

Conversley Leoon might get creative for the Minibits stand  ;) ;)

Try 'Drew at Studio Bergstrom, he does some brilliant flight bases (and he's a good mate, who has been laid off by teh US rescession, so any chance to throw some trade his way)

I might have something for that, not for a while yet though.

OR you could just pick up a bag from EM4 for a quid

halfway down the page

Would not reccomend putting a 10mm lead aircraft on these, much too top heavy, but stick it to one of Leon's 50mm dia MDF bases and your good to go.

I use tall drinking glasses, turn em upside down, the rim fits over your troops on the ground without disturbing them and the aircraft sits at height on the base. Simples. We actually came up with the idea at a show, when we were doing 20mm and realised we had left the standsat home. So we used pint pots instead.

Dirty ones I hope....
