With the new range what are the suggestions for rules?

Cold War Commander, Blitzkrieg Commander maybe.

sdennan

Thanks for that suggestion.

Im thinking perhaps at 10mm a lower level would be cool where a base equals a squad.

Steve J

The CWC lists are at one base equals a squad due to the nature of the conflict IIRC.

Dave Fielder

You could use Crossfire at this level, whilst designed for WW2 the weaponry used down south will not have changed that much at squad/section level.

It depends if you want to use air support though. If yes then stick with CWC or FWC.  Arty support works will in Crossfire, but it is very low level and is suited to a maximum of about one company aside for a large evenings game.

There's a Two Fat Lardies set as well, an add on to I Ain't Been Shot Mum I believe.

With the falklands depends on the action -

Force on Force has Top Malo house as a scenario...

Goose Green and Mount Longden would work at base to Section for CWC, or BGMR.

Problem is that there is only limited action.

Im going with Force on Force but Rules of Engagement by Great Escape Games ill try out as well in a modern setting. Disposable Heroes has a book on the Falklands and Somalia called Seek out, Close with and Destroy. A thing that keeps pondering me is the SLR vs FN-FAL the former being semi-auto the latter  full auto which i was going to class SLR as a semi-auto rifle and the FN-FAL as an assault rifle or just class them the same :-\

Sunray

In terms of SLR versus FN, I would be inclined in the Falklands scanario to pitch them as equal.

British skill at arms/marksmanship was much better, and at ranges of 30+ meters, the FN is very hard to control in full auto.
The Dutch Marines - who train a lot with the Royals tended to use the Auto on their FNs for FIBUA only and with other battle settings (300m) were always in semi mode.  I cannot comment on Argentine fire control discipline, but I would imagine something similar.
Don't forget that both sides used SMGs and the Brits (esp the Royals) had a fair number of LMG, in addition to the GPMG,  so the firepower of a British section was hot and accurate.  Indeed with the extra firepower of the LMG, I would give the Royals the edge.

British SF had the M16, so would accept that as Assault weapon. - with lots of nasty tubes under the barrel.

I have fought Falklands with CWC and AK47 rules. Both gave good games, the CWC was less bloody.

It'll be Cold War Commander for me (unsurprisingly)...I've been waiting to be able to do this in 10mm since playtesting in 2005/06 :)

Luddite

Don't forget as well that the British used a lot of explosives, light anti tank weapons etc., to dig the Argies out of their rock hard trenches.

And of course the bayonet.  With some guts behind it.   ;)

There's a supplement to IABSM called 'Now We'll Have to Bloody Walk' in one of the Lardies' Specials. Richard Clarke has said he'll update it for version 3 (not hard to do on your own anyway) and issue it free as a 20th anniversary commemoration but I think other priorities have got in the way recently.
