Hi,

Since coming back from my hols I seem incapable of cracking on with my AWI Americans, and cannot seem to get "my eye in" with their detail.

So rather than struggle on with them, I ve put them to one side and thought I would runa  littel experiment and make a start on my British late war NWE army for BKC. The aim is to practise painting a little quicker and to accurately time and cost painting a 10mm army.  I have a couple of monster sized infantry commisions around the corner and I want to up my speed so I am not painting the same thing for weeks!

So heres the British CO stand with a pretty quick and easy 3 stage paint job of undercoat, base colour, wash and highlight.





Before anyone points it out I know the command vehicle isnt a British one but these troops will double as my facists for AVBCW so I ve opted for this model which can be a vehicle commandeered by the Brits 

I have about 75 figures to paint, including 3 Sherman, 2 ATG, 1 recce , and I am logging how long every painting stage takes. Will provide a full breakdown of paints and times along with pics when finished. I reckon the 26 bases in the 2000 point army will take me about 10-12 hours, which equates to about £7.00 an hour at the rates I charge customers, less paint and flock costs.

Will let you know how I fair, and how long base coating, washing, highlighting, flocking Etc takes.

Just do what I do, anything over 3 is "a lot".

Seriously, though, nice work, Craig. 

As promised:

Camo netting (made from green stuff) then:  Vallejo German Camo Dark Green base coat
                                                               75/25 mix of Vallejo Olive Green/Vallejo buff highlights
                                                               GW Thraka Green Wash
                                                               Vallejo Khaki Highlights

Groundwork:  Sand and stones glued to base with PVA
                   Dulux "Expresso Shot" base coat (very cheap and available in tester pots!)
                   Very liberal drybrush (strangely I call this a wet drybush) with GW Bestial Brown
                   Woodland Scenics Fine Turf in large patches
                   GW Scorched Grass on top of this in smaller patches
                   GW Glade Grass in clumps as highlights
                   Pick out larger stones in Vallejo London Grey and Vallejo Buff
                   Add a few but of clump foliage as bushes.

Admittedly the bases are more than 3 (or 4) steps but its well worth the effort as they are the most prominent part of each stand.

I ve finished the CO and the infantry support. HQ's, 1 FAO, 3 Shermans, 1 recce and the PBI to follow shortly. All for BKC II.



So far this is about 4 1/2  hours work. My estimate of 10-12 hours seems to be about right for a 2000 point force.

Same methods as the CO for the extra camo and basing. Old stone wall is made from torn cork tile and painted as per the method outlined in this link:
