Just a note the above untis are half size maurice uses four bases per unit except guns which are singles

Ah - no, they're not....Maurice suggests 'squarish' bases: so if you imagine these as four square bases (2 per rectangle) then they're full size. You can play easily enough with rectangles that are twice as wide as they are deep - they do look odd when marching in column as they will be perpendicular to their direction of travel - it's a minor point though & means that I don't have to rebase my existing SYW Austrians & Prussians. Next armies for Maurice / anyWM variant will get based onto 25x25 bases though - four figures per base, four to a unit = 16 figures...like it  8)

Yes,although I'm a heavy on the figures man myself - now base Pendraken SYWs on 25x25 at 4x2 per base (heretically Old Glory 5x2). The dense figures do look good. Similarly cavalry on the same base in 3s, so I use 12 cavalry and a full pack of infantry per batallion/cavalry regiment.

Have you got a copy of the PDF NIK? while it suggest squarish and yes doubles of the Might and Reason rules work well on their forum one chap has three bases per unit which works fine, Sam just suggests he gets the fourth as all units have four bases which was my point.

Personally using 4 30x20 fo infnatry with 8 figs a base and 30 x40 for cav just because I like large cav units  ;)

Um...yes, I do have the PDF. What you were originally saying Rex was that Paul's army here was half-sized because it is using two bases. My point is that the two rectangular bases are the equivalent of four square bases:and that, therefore, this army is fine for both Maurice and Might and Reason & not half-sized at all.

Correct and I suggest we are saying much the same thing  ;) my main reason for the original post was to suggest to the people who may yet not have a copy was that each unit is a group of four bases whether they be square or rectangle so I am also not wrong just annally pedantic  :D

Mmmm ... still waiting for Maurice to arrive. Then I'll consider what to do, although I have the Jacobite forces I got from Nik. 50 x 25 per base with 3 bases per unit ...

They'll work fine Major - have a look at the scrap I did with the Lite rules using my SYW Austrians & Prussians with the same basing - here: http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,4939.0.html

I'm using 3 bases two - purely cos I like my standard to be in the middle of my units, plus any army I make also potentially fits most warmaster variants...

My bases are 30x30 with 6 figs per stand

You're all VERY bad people - every visit to this forum seems to cost me money...!! :'(
I've been using the generally excellent Piquet: Field of Battle rules (brilliant for solo play BTW) for my 7YW games, but always felt that they were a little lacking in period specific flavour. I downloaded, read through and playtested a few combats using the Maurice Lite rules last night - they read & played well, and seemed to offer the right amount of flavour, so I've now ordered the full set...
Right, now I'm off to sell some unwanted 15mm & 28mm stuff before the Visa bill arrives.... :D

Steve J

I also ordered the full set last night :).

Aye, it's sheer torture. You innocently click on a link, and next thing you know financial disaster strikes...  Yesterday it was Maurice. Lord forgive me, I pre-ordered the whole bloody lot, the booklet, the cards, the pdf... cost me forty quid. :o :'(

I shudder to think what monetary monstrosity may lurk in the next thread..  :(

Cheers,
Aart

Hurrah!! I managed to sell a painted 15mm DBA army today. The proceeds cover my Maurice purchase and even gives me some extra cash to spend on more 10mm goodness at Triples next weekend..  8)

Right, now in the midst of fighting my first full rules Maurice battle - and boy am I suffering. My opponent has just discovered how useful a notable with the instinct for rally is, especially after I played 'Oh, the gout, the gout!' against his c-in-c. Then I discovered he had so few cavalry because they were elite - goodnight my cavalry who couldn't rally fast enough. We also both discovered how useful it is to have a notable as chief of staff. Yes, these rules certainly have plenty of period flavour. Oh, and I forgot to mention, it's now raining so my perfectly placed guns can no longer bombard - damn!
