Superb! That takes me right back to my childhood!

Did they only start in 1961? I sort of remember other similar comics when I was in primary school. Or am I just getting befuddled?  :-\
When you realise we're all mad, life makes a lot more sense.

I've still got tons of these in a drawer.

And some 'War' and 'Battle' ones.

I've got a pile of these knocking about somewhere, I'll have to dig them out and see if the 8-year old fancies reading them.

I loved Commando.

You know what was better though?

Charley's War by Pat Mills in Battle. Man that was awesome.

That rings a bell as well, I'm gonna have to get up into the loft at Dave's house and see what's up there.  I used to pick them up at the shows by the boxful, so there's a mix of all sorts if I remember right.  I used to mark them (  :o ) with ratings on the cover, so 5 stars was a really good one!   :D

Charleys war was proper fooked up for a kids comic. Im sure I remember one strip where he collected his mates body parts in a sack after a shell went off.

How many 'war crys' can we come up with?

For example:

Gott in Himmel!!!
Achtung! Spitfire!
Die Yankee Pig Dog!

etc
I don't think my wife likes me very much, when I had a heart attack she wrote for an ambulance.

Hehe...aye i learned my first foreign words from Commando...

Reminds me of the Pathe News footage from Burma with a British chap knocking a Japanese prisoner to the ground with his rifle butt to the cyrstal cut RP voiceover; 'and here we see a beastly Jap getting a bit of what he deserves'.

Is Commando still going?  I wonder what the stories are like?

'Tommy Atkins goes to Afghanistan, builds a water well for a local Pashtun tribal village and gets a Blighty One off an IED on the journey back to Camp Whatamidoinghere'.

I think they still have the Commando comics in my local WH Smiths.

I have some of the modern compilations - great fun.
