Hi all,
        I'm looking at FoGR for 10mm and was wondering about how people do their basing. I presume people go for the original base size (15mm basing) but how many figures can you get on?
Cheers,
Andy

I use standard FoG Basing and funnily enough standard number of figs as if basing 15mm figs.

For me it doesn't look out of place.

3 cav per base except light cav which is 2 per base and four musket/pike per base

Thanks Nosher, I guess there aren't too many other 10mm FoGR players out there then  :-\

I've got Poles and Turks - use Warmaster style basing, using 1/2 frontage bases for the shock cav. The mass looks better in 10mm. original figures numbers look a bit more like WWII rather than mass formations.

I've not met any :( and judging by the lack of views on a pic i posted about 10mm on the FoG forum moons ago not a lot of interest in anthing under 15mm at all

I'd prefer to do FoG and FoGR at 10mm but unfortunately as its a torunament set and the tournaments have always been 15mm, you're locked into doing it at that scale unfortunately.

Pendraken is pretty much 'laying its own path' in 10mm.  Perhaps if there were a prevalent historical international tournament rule set / scene in 10mm, it might kick off?

As to basing, pretty much all of my basing is on 40x20mm / 40x30mm / 40x40mm.  Years of DBM mean i've settled into this convention and use it irrespective of the rules i'm currently playing.  The number of figures sometimes varuies but at 10mm is usually 4 infantry or 3 mounted per base.  I tried 8 infantry per base but it just looks too crowded.

I'm doing all my FoG in 10mm, following all the base size conventions.  If I ever show up to an event and they don't want me to play, I find another game.  Right now it's just me in the local area and I plan on building up about 6-8 armies across periods.

I find 15mm to not be epic enough for large scale combat.  Pendraken has a nice selection for the forces I want to do too.

Here's how I"m doing things:
HF = 5 figures
MF = 4
LF = 3
Cavalry = 3
Lt. Horse = 2
Mobs = 5 to 8

I'm getting ready to base my 10mm Ancients, and have spend a lot of time considering how I want to base them.  My goals include for the to be mounted as universally as possible for the different systems (such as WMA, FOG, DBx, WAB, etc.), and maintain a reasonably accurate ratio of figs/base for the scale.  Check out my earlier post and other peoples replies on a similar subject...  http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,3011.0.html

At this point I've pretty much settled on a rough doubling of the 15mm DBA/FOG basing as a guideline, but have decided that I will put almost everything on 40x20mm, rather than deal with the odd 15mm deep bases for with HF in FOG or 4Sp/4Bd/4Wb called for in DBA......  or 30mm depths for some mounted units DBA/FOG.  I think those odd base sized units can be dealt with easily enough if someone really cares about that.

My number of 10mm Figs per 40x20mm base:
8-10 HF (or DBA 4Pk, etc.)
6-8  MF (or DBA 4Ax, etc.)
3-4 LF (or DBA 3Ax, 2Ps, etc.)
4 Cav,Kn,Cat (could be "shock" mounted on 20x40)
3 LH
1-2 Art

I am allowing myself some flexibility (thus the ranges of figs/base) depending on my understanding of history.  For example, Phalanx's were typically more densely packed that Legions, though both may be classified as having the same number of figures per base under certain rules (i.e. both "HF" or "4Pk/4Bd"), so I might base Phalanxes or Pikes at 10 per base, and have Legions at 8 per base just to give a better visual feel for what I a looking for).

To see what this rough doubling looks like, check out Steve's work... http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,866.0.html

I'll also mount a few leftovers of each type on 20mm square bases, so that if I ever want to play WAB, I can use them for casualty removal!

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.  :)

FOG is a tournament set of rules.  And IIRC, it allows for 10mm figures on 15mm basing.  So in a tournament, you should be allowed to play.  In club play, most people won't have a problem playing against your 10mm but some might balk.

The biggest problem is most people already have 15mm armies.  I have had several people mention to me that if they were starting today, they would go 10mm rather than 15mm.  But they already have 15mm armies and so does pretty much every one else.  Although there are some pioneers setting a new trend by going 10mm.
