While I don't frequent this page very much, it seems to have been completely down for several days. the connection times out.

Is it just me or is everybody experiencing this?

I've not been able to access TMP for months. I occasionally click onto a TMP link via Google when searching for something, though never get access. I just get a blank, white page, with the webpage address failing to load.
Rimmer: "Aliens."

Lister: "Oh God, aliens... Your explanation for anything slightly peculiar is aliens, isn't it?

Rimmer: "Well, we didn't use it all, Lister. Who did?"

Lister: "Rimmer, aliens used our bog roll?"

Same here.

After a few weeks I realised I didn't miss all the concocted amateur dramatics.

The site works fine for me on my phone. My laptop browser blocks the site since it's not secure with https.

As for the site itself and the content, it's been on slow, steep, downward spiral. At one time it was a great resource for hobby and military history questions. There were many visitors who had great knowledge and were incredibly helpful and could provide answers on some incredibly obscure questions.

Almost all of those people left and moved on. I had objected to the constant political bickering going on but was blocked a few times because the site seemed to encourage that discourse. My guess is that, at some point, that was the only thing that generated clicks and posts (and revenue). Hobby related posts were lucky to get a few responses while political posts often generated 50+ comments.

A sad downward spiral indeed.

A very early example of social media enshitification.

It passed the 'ification' stage long ago.

Now it's fully formed and wholly reliant on those with coprophagia.

Works OK from here, but as has been mentioned the quality and gaming content are not what they once were by any means and theres a LOT of reposting of others old blogs, battle reports etc. I don't visit it very often these days.

Also remember that in a throwback to very early internet days TMP shuts down for an hour each day for "maintenance", so if you have trouble accessing it try going back later, though you theoretically should get a message saying the site is closed for maintenance if you try to access it during that hour.

Ahh yes, I think around 3 or 4am EST. For an hour or two. Also many "bugs" where random posts are merged into Frankenstein abominations.

Since I'm not on social media sites, I have pivoted to the Lead Adventure Forum for hobby discourse and here as well.

I'm sure there would be more interesting conversation on it if you didn't have to pay. Longtime addicts like myself are willing to stump up a few $$$ to stay on it, but why would anyone new join?

It still gets a lot of readers, though, so it's worth it for me to reach them.

I can get the home page to open, but seeing as I haven't looked at it for YEARS and don't know what my user ID is...(Let alone my password)... ;D  ;D  ;D
I'll do this later

I have a strange update on this.

I reset my router, but still got the "connection timed out message" any time I tried to view TMP.

Late last night (or was it this morning) I thought I would trie and access TMP via the Google Private window.  Surprisingly this worked.

I have now just tried accessing it throught normal Google in the same way that failed for the last 2 weeks, and no issues?????

I have changed no settings on my PC, I have nt had any  problems according to Norton. So Its a boit of a mystery.

I seriously doubt any deliberate misconduct, but unsecured connections ring a lot of alarm bells.

Yeah, for a while now I've been getting a message when I try to access it that might as well read "Here Be Dragons!"
