Done that many times.

Worse is paper cuts from wine boxes, gods to they sting. I'm covered in them up to my wrists from opening and stocking shelves.
But I enjoy the rest of the job.

Haven't added that to my range of mishaps...yet...Will. ;)
But I'm always being warned by my favourite till operative, in Tesco's, to watch out when opening the boxes of dog food I buy each week.
I'm fairly sure he's cut himself on those boxes umpteen times.

Mark. :)

Plasters were hopeless !!!
You'd have thought I'd cut the end of the finger off, completely.
Fortunately I still had a couple of the 'butterfly stitch' plasters (Wot you sent) :P  left.
One of those has done the job perfectly !! :-bd
I'm now no longer dripping blood everywhere, and the mad dog is no longer trying to lick me to death.
(I have had to remove all the blood soaked bits of kitchen towel from the bin next to my desk, as the mad dog was dragging them all over the floor....He seems to like the taste of my blood.)

Cheers - Phil :)

Just to add to our collective injury woes, I spent 4 hours in A&E on Monday night with a possible fractured ankle!

All because I was getting something out of the Pendraken van and my foot slipped off the back step.  But instead of landing on the floor like a normal person, my foot managed to hit the inside lip of a old drain hole instead, rolling my ankle and crumpling me to the ground.

After about 30 seconds with no feeling in my foot, I managed to get up and thought I'd walk it off.  Sadly no luck though, by the time I got home I couldn't stand on it, so off we went to the local hospital.  Luckily no fracture, just a really bad sprain, but I've been stuck at home all week with it elevated until the swelling goes down.

That sucks Leon, but at least it's not a fracture or broken.

OUCH ! :o

Hope that sorts itself out really soon, Leon.

All the best - Phil.

Sounds very painful - do let it heal up properly, soft tissue injuries can be a bit tricky

Gods way of affirming your decision not to travel so much in the van.
Hope you recover soon.

Ice! In a glass, with whisky poured over.

Happy it was not broken.

Lewis Moody, ex england rugby player just been diagnosed with MND :o  :'( .

I suffered something similar this spring while gardening.

I'd mostly forgotten the directives, but here's the reminder.
 * Paracetamol.
 * Elevate.
 * Ice (up to 15 minutes, a bag of frozen peas in a towel is recommended and practical).

Rather obviously, don't go trampling around on it unnecessarily.
While swelling (edema) continues, try to elevate at night.

As stated earlier, soft tissue trauma can take longer to heal than a fracture.

When I dislocated my ankle (45 degree angle to my leg) the doctor cheerfully announced I'd have been better off breaking it as it would have healed faster and the join would have been stronger. It did feel a bit like "if you'd done more damage to yourself it would have been easier for me to fix."

Thanks for the advice guys, really appreciated.  I've had it elevated for most of the past week, along with ice packs and the usual paracetamol/ibuprofen cycle when needed.  I'm back on my feet fine, it's just a bit tight when I'm walking.  I'll be taking it easy at Partizan this coming weekend!

I'm not sure AI is completely correct here...

QuoteHomebrewing temperature varies by brewing stage, but the most critical is fermentation, which for most ales is best kept between 6672F(1922C) to prevent off-flavors. For mashing, the temperature typically falls between 148158F (6368C) to activate enzymes...

Can't help but feel that as that is the temperature of the photosphere of the Sun, that would be the least of the problems...

This is in a big part because the 'AI' is really a LLM (Large Language Model) so it is synthesising the answer from text it can find. It is very poor at any kind of logic or counting.

The oddest examples I had where trying to use ChatGPT to give me suggested answers for a word filling quiz - one where you get the length of the word and a few of the letters from other words, and a single word clue. Asking for words of 7 letters starting with C (for example) was hopeless as it would often return answers with 8 letters - if you corrected this it would accept this and give an suggestion of the right length then the next time go to a random length again.

The AI summaries on Strava constantly fail to give the right number of PBs you have got on a ride, even though these are listed on the ride report a bit further down.

So whilst the AI helpers can be useful for providing some info they really do need some vetting for more factual content.

The nearest I get to using AI, is to tell 'Alexa' (on the tablet) to switch itself off.
It's annoying that even though I've got Alexa permanently 'switched off' it still seems to hear what it sometimes thinks is its name if I'm listening to the radio or a talking book.

It's not THAT often that it happens, Ian.
But enough times to make me think it's not just me accidentally touching the device dashboard (?) icon at the bottom left of the home page with a trailing finger.

I know that I DO sometimes do that !! ;)  :D
