Haven't spray varnished him or added tufts, but damn happy with how he's turned out!  As per my usual, he was done up with Contrast/Speed paints, seems to be working for me   This is a slow burn, project won't be finished anytime soon, probably not until the beginning of next year (because I've "stopped" painting, theoretically so I can play more games now).

Regarding him looking cold, I'd bought some winter guys painted by someone else:



I love how he dry-brushed white onto them to make them look even colder, but I'm so scared to try it, I ALWAYS overdo it with the drybrush...

That is a pretty heavy and extreme dry brush (and perhaps more so in the super close up)

Dry brushing takes a bit of practice - but once learnt it's a great technique. Basically get some paint on the brush, then wipe it off, wipe it off again, keep doing this till you think most is off and when you pull the brush across the tissue you barely see any paint. Then do a test dry brush on a spare base or painting stick - you will still have quite a lot on the brush!

Only then try on the figure, go with light touch to hit the edges. It's much better to do two passes than try to fix one heavy pass. 

Oh, I'm familiar with dry-brushing, done it plenty, I'm just not very good at it, always get impatient and go to heavy!
