2) What armies were confronted? - Parliamentarian v Royalist (Cookham Moor from the Marlowe to Maidenhythe scenario booklet).
3) Did you feel comfortable with the ruleset? - Yes
4) and... was this the first time you used this ruleset? - No
5) How many players were in the game? - 3
6) What went well? - Excellent game with these rules as usual, went down to the wire.
7) What could have been improved? First time that we didn't manage to quite finish a game probably due to terrain restrictions.

It was both a fun and interesting game. I think we started to throw dice at around 10am and finished at 3pm with a break of about 30-45 minutes for lunch (we use D10's and chits rather than cards and after trying all the methods extensively I really do not believe that cards are any quicker, and of course not a card in sight cluttering up the table)! I think we played 10 complete turns with 4 Parliamentarian and 2 Royalist medals left at 3pm. I suspect it was the extensive woods on the table rather than the stream which delayed and constricted things, with of course a lack of 'light' units; there were no dragoons in the scenario and only one unit of commanded shot on each side. I think another issue is the number of hedges that there are in the published scenarios (in general) which is nothing like the number that were around in 17th century England. Some people just seem to think that as you are playing ECW you need plenty of hedges all over the place which I would suggest is simply not true (with exceptions of course)!

2) What armies were confronted? - British (Neil)Vs American (Me)
3) Did you feel comfortable with the ruleset? - After half an hour of playing, Yes. Way more comfortable than last week's rules.
4) and... was this the first time you used this ruleset? - Yes
5) How many players were in the game? - 2 plus a mate umpiring.
6) What went well? - Excellent game with these rules. Skirmishers holding down two regiments of regular British in fields, the Legion crashing into and scattering two militia units before being shot away. Securing the road to Trenton and our damaging the British.Holding two elite units with other military in combat! The Americans snatched a win.
7) What could have been improved? Not losing Washington to a cavalry charge, which knackered command for the rest of the game!

Will need to think how to boost my armies, little short of figures, thankfully I don't need to rebase the armies!

Thanks Paul, very close to a conclusion then The  map does look very constricted, and those woods would certainly make it hard to get onto anyone's flank.

Lice Free or Die is a new ruleset to me.  I expect to see a variant for Ancient Britons vs Romans now that archaeologists have shown that the Romans introduced bedbugs to Britain.

6) What went well? - A lot of uncertainty in the scenario.  Defenders don't know where the attackers will come from.  Attackers don't know where defenders have laid ambushes.  Lots of objectives give both sides lots of opportunities and decisions to make.
7) What could have been improved? Second time we have played the scenario.  On both occaisions it has been an uphill struggle for the attacker, ending in failure.  May need some extra asset for the attacker, or reduce defender's strength.

What figures did you use for this game? The period is very interesting and I could be tempted to "dip my toe" into it - but without investing too much time and money.

The figures are various 28mm but all bought and painted by my son so I am not familiar with the makes or prices.  Let me ask him for details when next I see him.

2) What armies were confronted? - Parliamentarian v Royalist (Cheriton, using the scenario in the rulebook).
3) Did you feel comfortable with the ruleset? - Yes

5) How many players were in the game? - 4
6) What went well? - 2 players had never used the rules before but found them simple to pick up.  My side won.
7) What could have been improved? - Not a good introductory scenario for new players as the terrain is very difficult to move through before armies can get to grips.

Used 10mm figures for this.  Quite a lot of Pendraken.

1) What ruleset did you use in your last game? - For King & Parliament with the Celtic Fringe extra rules
2) What armies were confronted? - Covenanters v Royalist (Kilsyth from the Montrose scenario book)
3) Did you feel comfortable with the ruleset? - Yes
4) and... was this the first time you used this ruleset? - No, but it was the first time for 2 players and the Cringe Fringe extra rules were new to all but 2
5) How many players were in the game? - 8
6) What went well? - a very enjoyable day for all involved with the Royalists managing a narrow hard-fought win
7) What could have been improved? - based on the feedback from the other players not much, if anything

Sounds good, Paul, I expect a full debrief on the 9th!

I was involved in a campaign at club using the scenarios in the book, The defenders won every single game in the campaign, regardless of what army they were.

On one scenario I had to place my troops at least maximum firing range from one table edge. As I had regulars with a range of 24 inches, My forces were a line of single figures down the centre of the table.


We concluded they had not been properly play tested.

I'm not sure if we have played every scenario but we have had some very good games, the defender's not winning all the time.  Here is a report of one game

3) Did you feel comfortable with the ruleset? - yes by the end

6) What went well? - interesting engagement - we (Austrians) should have tried to move quicker/more forcefully.
7) What could have been improved? - our tactics!

This was the morning game I played at Winter Wonder Lard in Bristol last month.

3) Did you feel comfortable with the ruleset? - yes by the end
4) and... was this the first time you used this ruleset? - Yes (still in play test)

6) What went well? - interesting mix of protagonists and support figures; only about three figures per player.
7) What could have been improved? - maybe a bit reliant on luck

This was the afternoon game I played at Winter Wonder Lard in Bristol last month.

6) What went well? - managed to scrape a win.
7) What could have been improved? - being beaten up by Vader beofre running away, and having a sword weilding Mandalorian who couldn't hit a barn door!

2) What armies were confronted? - Pyrrhus of Epirus (without elephants) vs Romans and allies
3) Did you feel comfortable with the ruleset? - not really
4) and... was this the first time you used this ruleset? - No
5) How many players were in the game? - 3
6) What went well? - movement is rapid and engagements are straightforward to play through.
7) What could have been improved? - skirmish units don't work like the skirmishers I'm used to and the rules need a better QRS

1) What ruleset did you use in your last game? - General Quarters I/II - Russo-Japanese variant
2) What armies were confronted? - Russian & Japanese navies off Port Arthur on the morning of 9 February 1904 (the morning after the torpedo attack)
3) Did you feel comfortable with the ruleset? - Yes
4) and... was this the first time you used this ruleset? - No, only second time for this variant though
5) How many players were in the game? - 3
6) What went well? - The Russians managed to get under way and formed up quicker than expected, they have managed to cross the T of the Japanese battleships
7) What could have been improved? - running the Russian hospital ship aground was a little careless   Gunnery on both sides

We are halfway through the game and should finish it next Saturday. The Russian Cruisers are potentially isolated to the west and may struggle against the more numerous Japanese armoured cruisers

I was too heavily involved in the game to take any pictures, I'll try and take some before we start next week and hopefully during the game
