Cold War Germany .. 1984 ... or 1813 or somewhere in Cumbria 1638

Lieutenant John Churchill gazed eastwards towards the line of trees. He saw nothing to worry him.

"Anything Loo-tenant?" His platoon sergeant Henry Pitt had adopted the American pronunciation of his officer's rank, having been at a briefing with US officers only two days ago.

"Call me that again, and you'll have to explain to our colonial cousins that football does not involve rugby balls and padding." Despite his concerns, Churchill grinned.

He was standing in the turret of his Chieftain tank, staring across from West Germany into East Germany. It was 9th May 1984, and on the other side of those trees were Soviet troops, hopefully too busy to celebrate Victory Day instead of pointing their tanks westward.

"Have the PBI turned up?"
"Yessir." Pitt was sat on the turret beside his officer. He pointed to the knot of FV432s bringing an infantry company from the Cheshires to take over the position he and his troop had been covering since dawn.

"One small problem, sir." Pitt said nervously.
"Hmm?"
"It's the Swedes, Sir."
"The Swedes." The words penetrated through Churchill's worry. "The Swedes?" He asked. "What bloody Swedes?"

Pitt pointed behind the line of tanks.
"Them Sir. They say they're waiting for some Danes to turn up, seem to have a rumpus booked on this field."

Churchill wondered why he hadn't noticed the host of blue clad Nordic types, with their gaudy standards and the lost and lots of bloody horses.

"When do they think it is? 1815?"
"1813, Sir." Pitt was apolgetic.

"Well can't they play through or go somewhere else?"
"Sory sir, they're quite insistent that they had the field booked first."
"Gutrot!" Churchill exploded. "We have to defend the West from Soviet aggression. Besides" he said quietly, "I'm sure we booked first."
"Actually,  Sir, I think the Scots may have the first claim."
"Royal Scots, Scots Guards, Scots Greys?"
"Covenanter Scots, Sir. They're waiting for some Bishops, I think."
"And they think it is ...?"
"1638 Sir."
"Of course they do."

I've been alternate painting to keep myself from getting bored. I finished the Covenanter Scots and Napoleonic Swedes at about the same time, and been using my gaming table for a mustering point.

These Scots and Swedes will now be boxed, so Captain Churchill can await the Sovietrs in peace.

Good stuff! I was thinking this was going to be an epic Nobby Christmas tale, but I like it for what it is!

Makes you wonder about the various bits of Europe (and elsewhere) that have seen many different armies march through them over the years.

Makes me wonder if you could run a 'time travel' game where a double-6 blundered you into a different time period and you continue fighting there?  Have some kind of negative command modifier (or initiative boost to your opponent) due to your disorientation at being timewarped!

I should hope not, not in 1984.

I have a hankering to revisit Dragonhead. I don't think I finished my explanation of why odd things kept appearing in a small Scottish town.

Indeed. Now that I have FV432s and BTR60s, I could take it back to 1964 with T64s and Centurions (with maybe a Conqueror or two)

Umm, unlikely to see a T-64 in 1964 (despite the name). You're probably looking at 1967 onwards, so would still see the Cents.

Stronger Man's Conference (with tank)
I haven't the faintest idea what this is about but - it's a tank driving over some cars and a man shooting automatic weapons. For Jesus?

Sorry, I meant T62s.

No, no, no, no! That's worse than circus elephants!

I find that a bit distasteful. It would be OK if it were a M60, but not a Centurion.

Mind you I seem to recall being told back in that time frame we had about 250 Centurians warehoused for war replacements.

Certainly did, rather more in fact.
