Can anyone suggest which horses can best be used for the dismounted ECW dragoons? I'm planning to use 'spare' artillery crewman as actual horse holder. Many thanks :)

The what now?

I'm with Fred on the extra horses. I was considering the peasants as horse holders. Cut off the polearm and they may well do.

Thank you both for your advice. 8)

Wouldn't horse holders remain mounted? That seems to be the common way in more recent (better documented) times?

That breaks wargaming convention!!!

I get the idea though - easier to control the big beasties from another one. I wonder if it depends on expected time dismounted?

I am of the opinion that holders would dismount, otherwise one of the beasts would be exhausted having 90 Kg of me on it's back...

Fair enough then, that's as close to a contemporary (1647) photo as we're likely to get!

I know this is a bit Irregular on this forum but another manufacturer makes a dismounted ECW horse holder with horse. Although relative sizes suggest the lads picked the 15 year old to be horse holder.

HERETIC! Drinks for all Colonels and above!

If I have a 15 figure squadron (which I don't, but it makes the maths easier) the of the 15, 3 remain mounted as a command group, and each horse holder holds 4 horses, so I only need 3 horse holders per 15 mounted. This means I'll probably only need 6-9 for each army that I've planned.

I'll try the peasants and see how that goes.

With a little trimming would not MAL22 the WSS horse holder and horse work?

OK, if the original question is answered I have a supplementary.

If there are dismounted ECW horses are there mounted ECW horses? If so, what do they ride? :)

Sorry, I knew exactly what you meant, whubble, but the title has made me giggle every time I caught up on this thread.
