Duvets. Just HOW do I manage to completely disembowel Duvet in sleep? Or, is it trying to Escape? In years, long gone, there were things called Eiderdowns. They were made from Dead Ducks. But, being Dead, they did not move around much!

See that Military has introduced Duvet in place of Blanket. Some sort of Close Combat Training? ;)

You need to go back to nylon sheets, hairy blankets and a candlewick bedspread.

For added fun, nylon nightwear.

That was my childhood. Nylon pj's and nylon sheets so static sparkles getting into bed, then sliding about like a fried egg in the pan; then lose the sheet and go onto round 2 which was the hairy blanket that tickled and got bits up your nose; then lose the blanket and shiver under the candlewick with the only distraction being to pick bits out the candlewick.

No nylon sheets, thankfully, but as a child we had eiderdown bedspreads long before duvets were de rigueur in the UK.  They were produced, almost 'ceremonially', from where I know not, when winter arrived and almost had the status of family heirlooms.  The always smelled of mothballs I remember.  They had decorative trim and unlike a duvet they were not contained within a cover, and, also unlike duvets, they were placed over the top of normal bedding.  We knew winter had arrived when they appeared.

From memory, we never had Mothballs. Somehow, Eiderdowns still retained faint smell of Duck... long past demise!  ;D
