Followed by another week when you report Lee's resounding victory against them. Followed a further week later when Lee soundly beats them with Seleucids. At which point you will again think or taking up trainspotting. :)

Seriously, looking forward to Pictures to encourage me to paint the 10mm Parthian Army I bought 5 years ago.

Whereas I'm concerned I'm going to find myself buying a 2mm Parthian army for Strength and Honour!

Hmmm, this is proving a remarkably accurate refight of Carrhae. My Arab mercenaries deserted at the start, the army became severely demoralised by bad omens (multiplied by their consciousness of being under a curse before they even left Rome), Crassus has just been carried off in a rout, and treachery in the enemy ranks has proved only a minor delay to Lee's forces.

The Parthian army sets out.jpg

While the Romans frantically prayed (they'd already lost their Arab mercs and their disciplined rating as a result of the curse in Rome and the bad omens in Asia), the Parthians rapidly crossed the field, securing the advantage to morale that this allows, and giving the invaders no room to deploy.

Parthians are from the Sarmatian horse archers and fully-armoured cataphracts (with lances modified to point forwards), and Scythian horse archers. The Arabs are a mixture of every available type, not all Pendraken, I'm afraid.

The hapless Romans were still praying when the arrows began to fall. Lee didn't need to skirmish for long; we were like skittles when she charged.

And it was all over fairly soon. The Armenians double crossed their Parthian masters, but Lee was ready for it and they were taken out before they could give me any help.

Next time I'll take Trajan's army. It should handle the Parthians rather better.

As Cromwell put it a few centuries later after the Battle of Marston Moor "God made them as stubble to our swords, wee charged their Regiments of foote with our horse, routed all wee charged."

The Romans are coming back today, led by Trajan, and with quite a few improvements to the army.

I had bad omens again this time. Trajan himself joined in the second round of sacrifice, sword in hand, and the priests decided they'd better get better results this time. With actively good omens, we got off to a slightly better start in this battle. The Moorish light horse proved useful in skirmishing some of the cataphracts to a standstill.

The Alans failed to break the senior Parthian unit (even though a unit of auxiliaries took them in flank too), but at least killed their king. But in the centre, where Lee was too excited to take pictures, our rolls were dismal, and I lost three engagements where I'd set everything up in my favour.
The emperor got off the field alive, but the Parthians have now beaten late republic and early imperial Romans.

Trainspotting is looking even more enjoyable then?

Perhaps I could purchase your Parthians from you, and you could look for another army that might be able to beat Lee. Although you must be running out of options  :)

Perhaps you should play the Parthians, If you win you can claim it's the rules making them invincible, thus nullifying your defeats - but if you lose, your only option will be self flagellation.

Either way it rings of desperation.

OH look A train! ;D
