How times have changed! I joined this forum 10 years ago. This was my work station then...

Gosh I was so excited and happy then.
... and this was just before Christmas 2022.

Not so easily excited, but just as happy.

Actually, since that photo was taken, I've replaced that cutting mat with a new A3 one.

On the left is a stack of 14 drawers.

In it are decals, spare brushes & glues, Lego (for tiny aeroplanes), some of the spare paints, bases, basing materials and some of the lead mountain.

OH.  I though the idea of the painting competition was to show figures.

Now I see its a PAINTING competition.  So here is my set up in the least tidy and ergonomic category.  Apologies for anyone offended by 1/72 figures. I will return to 10mm after these two dark age armies are "finished".  Also I'm not finding reactivation a problem with AP speedpaints (yet) but then I tend to do one colour over a 100 fig batch then take a short break anyway.  And I bought the set before the Vallejo announcement.

What passes as my painting station, aka the kitchen table:

One of the things that constantly intrigues me about this competition is the variety of painting styles. Some of them I am in awe; some I appreciate and may try to emulate; and some of them I file as "OK, but not for me".

I have described my personal style as "not 'well painted' so much as 'well, painted'." I do work on the "observe from a table distance" philosophy, and don't paint specially for the competition (Gerald apart.)

This year, I am going to steal a method of painting windows, and am contemplating my way of painting horses (which has always been a pain.) I'm also going to try and improve my photography, In fact I'm quite happy (not totally) with these photos from my latest game "1984: Texas National Guard vs Soviet Rifle Rgt".

And that for me is what it is all about. Seeing what everyone else is doing and learning and being happy with what I do. I've been looking back at photos of stuff I painted ten years ago and frankly shudder. I can see where I have grown and this competition points to ways I can improve.

It's not about the winning* and although it would be fantastic to win** it's all about the taking part.***

Thank you to Leon et al for setting up the competition, and may the best man win.****

*Yes it is
**I want those vouchers!!! Gives me the precious, precious vouchers; Nobby neeeeeeds the precious vouchers.
***If you believe that, may I interest you in purchasing Runcorn Bridge?
****Yeah, not even I'm gonna say that's me. Have you seen the competition?

BTW, very interested in other people's painting stations.

@Raider4: Are those tiny skyscrapers at the right side of your monitor?    :-\
@SteveJ: You have my respect if you can be so disciplined to paint on a table that small.  :o
@DecemDave: I have to ask: what is the Dulux for?

Thanks Nobby! I have no other choice but to be disciplined given the 3' x 3' space (or thereabouts) I have 'access' to.

Your vehicles look fine and these days I paint to a standard I'm happy with and looks good when on the table. As I get older I want to play with my 'toys', so 'speed is of the essence'!
