Quote from: John Cook on 02 January 2023, 10:14:31 AMHNY to all.  It can only get better, can't it?

Not while at least three crown-wearing nut-jobs have nuclear weapons, Trump is unimpeached, Japan feels compelled to up its military spending, it's just a matter of time until a woman in Afghanistan or Iran can be blinded for learning to read and until books by dead white men are publicly burned by people who've never read them, and the British Empire is ruled by a vegetarian. Bad, but all ready to get much worse.

May we live to see 2024!

Arrived in Australia on 4 Jan.  Went down with something very unpleasant on 5 Jan.  Severe cough, nausea and I'll spare you the other details.  Three negative COVID tests later and my son called his GP surgery last Saturday and got me an appointment on Sunday (yes I know).  Very pleasant doctor diagnosed a chest and sinus infection and put me on antibiotics such that I'm now able to catch some rays, eat some Aussie cheese and drink some Aussie wine.  I feel a bit cheated that it wasn't COVID but yes, it certainly does get better.
