Bigger Triremes

Good morning each.

I am looking for some advice.

Whilst looking through my "get round to it" box, I have found some 1:2400 triremes I got from Tumbling Dice. I know why they never made it to me table - they're too small.

Can anyone recommend something a bit larger?

I have my eye on 1:600 Xyston from Scotia Grendel. https://www.scotiagrendel.com/Xyston/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1

Thanks Speedy. Any recommendations?

Are Navwar still going? Is Rod Langton still going?  Their web presence seems to be stuck in 2009.

The Langton stuff is avaliable through Tumbling Dice. Far as I known his stuff is still around.

Really? News to me. Must investigate. I'd like some of the Langton Egyptian galleys.

Haven't bought from Rod Langton since June but easy transaction, done by email, and nice stuff. Bigger than the Navwar equivalents though. Got some buildings too. Not bad alongside Brigade stuff.

As far as I know Navwar are still going. Was contemplating a small top-up order of Ancient and Armada period stuff. Thought I'd give him a ring in the New Year. Always good for a chinwag.

Below: 2 Navwar Greek Merchants, Langton Roman Merchant and Grain Ship, Navwar quinquereme and two Roman Merchants, Langton sinking quinquereme. The Grain Ship is about bang on for the 1200 ton "Isis" of the Imperial period. Possibly a little big for Punic Wars but "absence of evidence isn't evidence of absence." :)

I had some of those Xyston ships, very nice they were to. Never got around to building them and subsequently sold them again, but don't let that hold you back.  :D
Water is indeed the essential ingredient of life, because without water you can't make coffee!

I remember reading a thread, either on here or TMP, that suggested that Navwar operated on a "in person in store" and "mail order" basis only, no on-line store.

I also seem to remember that they thought that the shop on on Saturdays only.

The website, which doesn't seem to have been updated since before lockdown, is: http://navwar.co.uk/nav/default.asp

2018 Painting Competition - 3 x Runner-Up!

Indeed so. It's a set up that suits the owner but not all potential customers.

He prefers phone or fax.

Nice guy. Nice toys. I have no problem with it.

Are you sure about that.  Langton Miniatures has its own web site and was last updated in September and is still going strong as far as I can tell.

I have looked for years for a playable set of rules.
I must own about five various sets, non of which suit my taste.
Any recommendations, minimal record keeping, no special board markings would be a good start.

Ithoriel, if you do give Navwar a call please pass on both my and Pierre the Shy's thanks
I've got about 450 of his ships and Pierre the Shy has quite a few as well ;)

Not exactly sure how many "quite a few" is actually Paul.....but well into 3 figures.

Once I can find a PC fax app that works I have an eventual need for a few more.....reinforcements ;)

The pharmacy down the road has finally moved into the 21st Century so they no longer use a fax to send prescription information.
