I think extremism in any form is rarely a good thing, regardless of belief, ideology or creed.

Sad to hear, hope he recovers but sounds like he's in a bad way. 

It is not religion that is to blame, but people who use and manipulate it to their own ends.  I see that the police say that they don't yet know what the motive was but I don't think you need to be a detective to work it out.

I completely agree. Often their own belief system shows how stupid the extremists are.

One of the best for this is the Ku Klux Klan. They hate anyone non-white and are very anti Semitic. However they claim to be Christians and claim that their beliefs are based on the bible.

The main person in the Christian faith (apart from God) is Jesus - Someone who was most definitely Jewish and certainly not white, and may even have been black.  - I rest my case.

It's Islam not religion.

Best not degrade this into religious bickering as I'm sure we all have strong options and it rarely ends well. 

Regardless of motivations this is the act of a disturbed man attempting to harm and kill another. Humans have a knack for finding excuses in whatever they believe to justify their behaviour and actions.

It does seem that he is recovering and is now off the ventilator, though sounds like he may have lost the use of an eye and an arm.
