I was chatting to a collegue yesterday, telling him about how wargamers can't resist shiny, and the legend if how you paint your last figure you die.

He is into motorbikes in a big way, and has the same problem.  He said that his missus is letting him into a bike shop this weekend, and he knows what will happen.  There will be some 2 wheeled loveliness, and he'll sit on it, and just as his drool is pooling on the fuel tank a sales guy will walk past, and without stopping or making eye contact say

"£99 deposit and you can drive it away today"

And he will be torn between the evil eye of SWMBO and the fact that he has a ton in his pocket....

I've always been tempted by bikes, usually when they're in the showroom looking all nice.  The thought of being thrown off it at 70mph when a lorry clips me puts me off though...!

Yeah, I used to ride one back in the sixties. Not any more, though. Don't have the reactions now.

Mind you, it's not all one-way. I've seen bikers do some suicidal things on the road.  :o

I don't doubt it.  We live just on the outskirts of the NY moors, and the bikers round here love the trip down to Helmsley.  Single lane, country road, and they do it at 100+ at times.  Maybe today's events at the Moto GP will remind some of them of the possible consequences.

When I was 16 I got a moped for Christmas, within a year I'd come off twice (at relatively low speeds but only because it wouldn't go fatser than 35) and got a car as soon as I passed my test.  And that was in the olden days before there was a lot of traffic about.

Rockclimbing, ice climbing and sea kayaking are all fine but riding a motorbike is too bloody dangerous.
