My next piece of self indulgence will be to fit radio aerials to my AFVs. Advice please, on location and material. Is this a moment to chop a nylon brush up for the bit?

fred.

I used nylon bristles from a draft excluder. Had a couple of inches left over after fitting one to a door. They are approximately the right length and black - so don't need painting. I tend to snip them to length after adding them to the tank. But any nylon bristles should do.

Location really does depend on the vehicle - Google is your friend here.

Worth drilling a small hole to glue the aerial into - makes it much easier.

Many thanks, good tip, except that my house is so chilly that the draught excluders are all working overtime.

I use thin fishing line. Cannot remember the actual thickness (sorry - I have had the reel so long that the label has fallen off) but you can get it in black - so that saves repainting.
I use it on 6mm AFVs - so it will work on 10mm.
I've even used it to depict long aerials on UK landrovers that are secured back during travel.

I use a few bristles cur from the stiff Brush that came with our household dustpan - Don't get caught nicking them. ;)

Plastic and in black so no need to paint. Use a fine drill just thicker than the bristle to reill the hole a feww mm deep if you can.

Put a small amout of superglue on a piece of scrap card and roll the last couple of mm of the bristle you are using in it. Push into hole, the excess glue forms a small blob above the hole and looks like the aerial mount.

I am disappointed that you were not brave enough to shave some off one you already had. :)
