Yep, nice and easy Will, which was good. Getting the grey to look right was tricky, but happy with how they came out. Some Pz II's tomorrow all being well.

Five Pz II's finished this morning :). They are even quicker to paint than the Pz I's, owing to having no tools on show. Some more command tanks to follow tomorrow.

Pz II Ausf F (code GRV 5) Will. Produced from March '41 onwards, so too late for Poland and France, but that doesn't bother me :o ;). It would be nice to have earlier variants at some point though...

No painting today as trip to hospital for x-rays on knackered back and fingers. Tomorrow looking more promising :).

Lord Kermit of Birkenhead

Steve most of the differences on the Pnz IIF are internal, only external is the lower front hull, one curved one flat but can't remember which way round.

Today I am mostly painting 28mm Sarmatians  :D

I've had a long day of (tedious) one-way (I have to just sit and listen) conference calls and on-line presentations, and so to keep my mind alert I set up a painting station and cracked on with nine (so that is 3 bases of 3) Sarmatian heavy cavalry lancers. Trying not to get paint on my headphones or put a paint brush up my nose as I drink a cup of coffee!

Many armies in LaDG are allowed Sarmatian allies some it seemed like a good plan to break out the box of Sarmatians I'd been hording for just this moment. Lovely Wargames Foundry and Warlord metal sculpts - mostly in animated charging position. I'd cleaned, assembled (& adding lances) and then spray undercoated them earlier in the week. These light evenings are a real bonus.

Painting the scale armour and horse bards are always a bit of a challenge, as mostly this was made out of horn or hoof or bone scales. In the end I plumped for a Vallejo Khaki Grey - 70.880 - washed onto a white undercoat base. I then run a very thin chestnut brown ink wash over them to pick up the detail and then dry-brushed with a lighter shade (of the Khaki - mixed with white) to pick up the edged of the scales. I think they look pretty good (if I say so myself). Some of the riders have bronze scale corselets and their helmets are a mix of bronze or iron - with coloured panels.
I am still working on all the assorted detail now - such as swords/scabbards, quivers and bow cases etc. etc.

The only thing is ... they are starting to look more and more like Riders of Rohan !!! ... but as Sarmatians (& Goths) were Tolkien's original 'source' for the idea behind the Rohirrim (& I do love the Peter Jackson LotR films) what can I expect ....  ;D ;D ;D

Only another 9 to paint to provide me with the 6 bases I need for a full allied contingent. Hey ho.

Sarmatians, especially Alans, are invaluable for dozens of late ancients and dark ages armies.

A bit like Dark Age infantry (or shoes and handbags*) - apparently you can never have enough of them!
