Hay Castle, in the recent Battle of Tolpit's Field, was flying a number of flags throughout the battle; Lee didn't capture them on film, but fortunately I did. They can be replaced with Lancastrian banners, though taking a castle is so difficult nobody ever attempts it!
The model needed a little work before painting, since every single tower was provided with an obvious gateway - not a discreet little sally-port, please note - but a few minutes with builder's plaster sorted it out. The modeller clearly hadn't quite worked out what medieval fortifications were for.

Nice stuff. Castles generally had to undergo seige to capture them.

If memory serves the Yorkists made pretty short work of the Lancastrian held castles in the northeast by using these bloody great bang sticks called artillery. Not always brilliant though, as James III found out on his tour of the northeast.

Blag your way in.
A 'carpenter' and two assistants (possibly - numbers vary) talked their way in and took Conwy Castle for Gwilym and Rhys ap Tudur in 1401 during Glyndwr's rising. Most of the Garrison were at mass in the town.

Hooray!  :-bd They should have carried on and taken the Wirral.

Today the Lancastrians finally won a battle; a state of affairs I attribute to the fact that I was leading them this time.

Lee's correct about the fighting qualities of the Taffs; great poets, considerable skill in acting, and they can teach their western neighbours a thing or two about hospitality, but lousy troops!
