Which top armies would you need to 'break-away' from routine wargaming to join a Super League? Assume that you'll get paid a Bazillion Fresh Euros for this but will also loose access to all other gaming buddies ;-)

In WRG 6th it's (unsurprisingly) the late medeival ones win.

Imperial Romans should always be in there.

Probably Mongols as well.

Will obviously depend on era and ruleset but it ought to be the historically successful  so:  Ashurbanipal's ear and hand counting Assyrians; Caesars barbaricidal legions; Alex the psycho's Macedonians; Qin Shi Huang "Pendraken are moving - it will have to be life-size Terracotta" ;  Genghis's "who needs people" Mongols ;  and so on down the eras to our very own "don't rule the world - own it" East India Company and the "we win all the battles but not wars" modern US army.

Then there are the guys who achieved lots with very little: Stilicho, Aetius, Belisarius, Narses, Cortez, and pretty much every British admiral/general of note.

Remember that the British Army always fights at the point where two maps join, on a forward slope with the rain chucking it down, often with short munitions.

I missed the Sword of Allah - Khalid Bin Al-Waleed  whose Arab Conquest armies destroyed several empires.

Have to be mid-C18th and later C19th Prussians. The French would be pleased to see them go.

Just Warhammer's Sigmar Marines against Warlord's Black Seas - every week - for ever.

In a world where there is no relegation there is only WAR!!!

A slightly different line of reasoning.
I've sought the biggest musters of overpaid mercenaries.
All aiming to eliminate risk while grabbing an even bigger slice of the pie.

First out of the hat are Serie A's own Condottiere companies.
Happy to play out a nil-nil draw rather than sprain an ankle, and expecting a princes ransom for their efforts.
(Sometimes a real ransom and a real prince).

Minor placings to the teams from Byzantium, Carthage and Alexander's successors.
They're not universally fancied, since each let the side down by fighting hard and dying on the job.

Well said. Nothing worse than self-immolation on the touch line!!

And, much as I like the Prussians, the Russians who never lost to them. I must add the killerest of killer armies, Jagellonian Poles.
I don't drink coffee to wake up. I wake up to drink coffee.

Leman

Well they can't be that good seeing as how Poland disappeared off the map for a couple of centuries. Must try harder.
