I miss my never victorious DAK from Flames of War days, so with the release of the new Panzer IIIs I thought it was time to rebuild in 10mm. Starting with...

Panzer IIIF - early in the desert campaign, camo was literally mud slapped onto field grey tanks, so weathering was an issue!

Sd.Kfz. 231 8 rad - love these insane vehicles, had to buy more of these.

"What's over here!"

"Oh hellllooo!"

Cool idea, Lemmey, and looks good.

I'm so angry at myself for getting into North Africa in 15mm; it's too big, and 10mm is really perfect for the desert (in particular).

The 'mud splattering' effect has worked really well, Will ! :-bd

Not sure why the 10mm is really perfect for the desert (in particular); mine are 6mm.  Care to clarify?

Hammurabi,

"Not sure why the 10mm is really perfect for the desert (in particular); mine are 6mm.  Care to clarify?"

Sure.  15mm is too big and 6mm is too small.*  That's why 10mm is perfect.*

I've got tons of WWII stuff in 6mm, 10mm, and 15mm, and 10mm is big enough to be able to ascertain unit types at 'normal gaming distance' on a 6' x 4' table* and provides an aesthetically pleasing look with regards to tabletop engagement distances.*   Seeing units at 15mm is no problem,* but the units look too close and are easy to get too bunched up,* and 6mm looks good regarding spacing/ranges on the tabletop* but I really have to lean in close to figure out what type of unit I'm looking at and which one it is.  Which really sucks.*

I hope that clarifies.

Jack

*This is all simply my opinion, which I figured was obvious since there can be no objective "truth" as to which scale is 'really perfect' for anything...

Yes.  It is indeed a matter of opinion but at least I can appreciate WHY you have that opinion.

You bet.

I'm a big fan of 6mm, have quite a bit of WWII and Cold War, just have problems with seeing it on a 6' x 4' table.  It works very well for me on a 3' x 3' or 4' x 4' table (more so the former) with one base=one company rules, as long as I keep the unit density low enough.  I base them on 60mm x 30mm with three vehicles per base.

Interesting.  We have company bases of 75mm x 25mm with three tanks, support platoons on a single base of 25mm square.

Most kind but that is the website of my principal oppo's club and it shows his GHQ tanks.  He is a GOOD painter and provided the German and Soviet tanks.  Other club members produced the American and British armies.  I also have an American army (H&R) and fielded it in the subsequent Normandy campaign.  Unfortunately our free website, which we used to record our games on, has changed to require payment and so we have lost all our historic records. [Copies available on old computers but who cares?].  He has summer clothed Eastfront troops.  I am due to do the winter troops and we are supposed to start a refight of the Eastfront in June, starting with the June invasion and marking the 80th Anniversary.  [Will you be back to WWII marking the event with a new campaign?]. I am a POOR or INDIFFERENT painter but hope the lessons I am learning here will improve my output.  However, the pandemic has put a huge question mark over all activity.

My blog https://blogofthenautilus.wordpress.com but it has not been updated in three years.  I am having problems posting to it and general problems with downloading pictures and posting them.  I do have a mass of games played over the last three years, which nobody will want to read  the AAR reports of anyway.

I have just got through a Zoom campaign on Punic Wars II using Command & Colors: Ancients for which I had the 6mm troops.  Now I am hurriedly finishing 2mm Napoleonics for a Peninsular War campaign using Command & Colors: Napoleonics.  Then I need to get back to finishing my 10mm  Pendraken figures for the Korean War campaign, to be fought using Memoir 44 and PBI.  After that I need to do the Eastfront winter troops in time for the November attack on Moscow.  Never a dull moment!
