A few belated pictures of our AWI game in lieu of a full battle report
The slightly scary thing is this isn't all my AWI forces

On the British right Benedict Arnold's small Loyalist Brigade attempt to delay the French Bourbonnais Brigade while the 80^th Foot boldly advances against the Volontaires Étrangers de Lauzun and American militia


In the center the British regulars deploy to meet the American Legions while the Hessians advance to support the 80^th Foot


On the British left Gould's Brigade has already been exhausted by the American Continentals leaving the Loyalists and loyal militia on the hill on the far left exposed


The 80^th Foot delivers a volley that drives back some of Lauzun's Legion Hussars while Hessian Jägers cover their left


On the British right the large French Bourbonnais Brigade press back Benedict Arnold's small Loyalist Brigade, the massed French volleys have inflicted casualties on the Queens Rangers mounted and foot, the Loyal American regiment has withdrawn from the village in disorder
The Volontaires Étrangers de Lauzun are applying pressure on the 80^th Foot from the hill as more American militia fire from their front


The Americans apply pressure on the British left and the Catawbas commanded by General Newriver deliver a successful flank attack on the Loyalist infantry while the American Continentals apply mounting pressure


The 23^rd and 33^rd Foot hold steady against the advancing American Legions, the 23^rd's volleys devastating Kirkwood's Light Infanty


The British Guards delivered a furious bayonet charge supported by the 33^rd Foot clearing the center


The 80^th Foot supported by the  Highlanders of the 71^st rout the American militia in the center right


These two bayonet charges have turned what was a decidedly dangerous situation for the British with both flanks in real trouble to a victory

Very impressive.  No doubt somewhere you have stated that they are 10mm and what the rules that were used but any details would be most valuable to learn.

I was playing the Americans....we should have put the slower but tougher French in the middle...but hindsight is a fine thing 

All Paul's AWI stuff is Pendraken 10mm...the rules are Volley and Bayonet wing scale..each stand is around 250 - 300 men or 60 - 100 cavalry. They give a very fast moving and enjoyable game with a usually decisive result.

One day Mr Arnold's luck will run out

Looks like a great game

Good looking game and figures.  The labelling of the stands is done particularly well.  How is that done?

They are composed in Word, printed and glued on prior to basing, they are 5mm tall for infantry & cavalry and 10mm tall for artillery & officers

Temporary labels can be affixed over the permanent labels using blue tack or similar

A dark green background is used for the British and dark blue for the Americans and French, these identify the sides without standing out too much against the table

Each label has a small flag, the name of the unit, the key stats of the unit and then a three colour code that identifies the Division, brigade and battalion

What an impressive looking game, top notch!!

I am doing something similar on my 2mm bases.  I have also done labels using WORD and give clarity to the commander as to what a troop base is, although I use pale green rather than dark green.  My bases are 40mm x 20mm and the labels are 6mm high.  I find 14mm a bit limiting if you want something deeper than a single block.

Enjoyed seeing the photos of the game and, as always, am impressed with your figures and basing. Perhaps the French placement had something to do with  the politics of the alliance, letting the junior partner have the higher positions of honor and responsibility?
