BH just played out with "House of the rising sun" as a tribute - Good one Radio 4

It's nice to hear it again, but form the obits you'd think it was the only track he played on.

Now here's some guitar:

It's "Boom Boom" (Old John Lee Hooker number).
Really nice contrast of control in the verse to and fro with ripping it loose for the solo.

Captain Sir Tom Moore aged 100 from Covid

We lost a fine man today, our moral leader during the tough days of spring.

Typically modest as were so many of his generation:
"I'm still Captain Tom, that's who I really am but if people choose to call me colonel, well, thank you very much".

I like to think he'll be united with the rest of the Burma Lads (My Grandfather included) somewhere they can share a cuppa, or maybe something stronger.
Maybe Dame Vera will drop by to lead a sing along.

FierceKitty

I like to think of her running into some proper composers in the afterlife and finding what she could really do with that astounding voice!
I don't drink coffee to wake up. I wake up to drink coffee.

Sorry to hear that today but what an amazing life to have led.  He achieved more in his 100th year than most of us will manage in our lifetimes.

He memorably reminded us that a better tomorrow would come. When it does, we should remember him.

Not a lot to be said about Captain Tom that hasn't already been mentioned. Nice to see the flags above Downing Street flying at half mast and the Queen sent a personal message to the family.

Poggle

Sad to learn of Captain Tom's passing. A great man.

I awoke this morning to the sad news of Captain Tom's passing

It lead the National Radio news bulletin here in New Zealand and the Breakfast TV did a live cross to their London based correspondent to discuss his passing

He inspired us as well, thank you Captain Tom

A bit of a diversion from departures.
One of my pet theories about the British Invasion's success hinges around the technical improvements they enjoyed over the original artists.

There's a lot more twang or edge to be had from an AC-30 or Fender Bass, and whatever Gibson, Fender and Rickenbacker they selected.
Compare with whatever John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, T-Bone Walker and Elmore James were playing through.
(Usually an archtop with retrofitted pickups and a repurposed bit off a PA).

Some people suggest that as  you now had  White people playing Black peoples music the genre became much more acceptable.
