. . . and I'm looking for US Mid-West.

If you want urban, there's the Dropzone Commander set. Also avaialable to download and print and make yourself.

I've made a couple of these as supplied, and frankly the footprint is enormous as a gaming piece. So I've done a few more with cut-n-shut techniques. Less realistic probably, but more practical.

This seller in Canada does some US buildings:

He is also on ebay, and I have had no problem getting his stuff to the UK,

You want N Scale (US/RoW at 1/160) rather than N Gauge (UK at 1/148). A small but subtle difference.

Apart from Japanese N Scale which is 1/150 (sigh)

Mid-West, try https://web.archive.org/web/20120327162316/http://www.illinoishistory.gov/ps/construct_mainstreet.htm

Nah, don't care - Its for if I ever take the plunge and buy the stuff for the Alien attack on Biddlibong, Idaho.
I have neither the time nor the crayons to explain why you are wrong.
