Hi everyone. Been reading The Men Who Would Be Kings rule set and I'm interested in French North Africa. I was wondering if any colonial tirailleurs were available in 10mm, or if there were any useful substitutes?  :)

There are tirailleurs in the WWI section, F13 and in the FPW section, FPW11.

If it is pre-WWI then the French zouaves in the FPW range, painted in Tirailleur uniform colours, are the figures needed.

For the Algerian tirailleurs, the Turcos,  I used the ACW Zouaves ACW18  Zouaves in fez, advancing/attacking inc. command

Which tirailleurs did you have in mind, Algerian, Senegalese - there are several colonial tirailleur regiments - and which period are you interested in?

I was thinking either pre or post WWI. I did order the FPW Tirailleurs, however.

I forgot all about this and having asked the question you deserve an answer.  Sorry about that!  Late and immediately post WW1 is easy.  French Colonial troops troops wore the standard French uniform, with steel helmet, but in khaki rather than Horizon Blue.  If you want figures in the chechia, then you might find some of the Spanish Civil War Moroccan Regulars useful SCW 39-41 for example.  The Senegalese Tirailleur F13 in the WW1 range is probably worth a look but I haven't seen it myself so can't really comment further.

Pre-WW1 is more difficult because different corps wore different uniforms.  If you want the typical zouave type dress then I suggest FPW 11 because it has the typical French back-pack which the American Civil War types don't.  The Egyptian infantry SC4 in the colonial section might also be useful for some types.

Don't forget the Spahis in the FPW range that can be used right up to WWII (see The Big Red One).

I hate being picky, but I've just noticed that the catalogue Spahi officer is painted incorrectly. Should be red jacket with black braid, light blue trousers with red stripe, light blue kepi with gold braid.

These are the WWI Tirailleurs Sénégalais painted with the 1914 blue uniforms
