Greetings from the Netherlands everybody. I arrived here in Delfzijl on July 14th and have found myself in a great part of the world. Delfzijl is the fifth largest port in the Netherlands and saw heavy fighting by the Canadians right at the end of the war in Europe. Delfzijl is situated near the mouth of the Eems river, with Germany being four miles away on the other side. The whole country is steeped in a different sort of history to the UK, being part of the continental land mass. Indeed the twn was a starfort until the early C19th, with a couple of the gates and some bits of zigzag moat still remaining.

The move from UK went quite smoothly and include my first (and probably last) visit to Hull, and a drive up from Rotterdam. The apartment was devoid of everything apart from two lights and a brand new kitchen (but no stove), so for the last three months my son and I have been turning it into a home - laminate flooring, light fittings, white goods, furniture etc. Plenty to see and do with cities like Groningen and Leeuwarden within easy reach, my new bike for local exploration and my son's van to take us to see a complete starfort at Bourtange about 30 miles away. Planning on doing a bit of 10mm SYW gaming once my study/games room/painting room is sorted out. Cheers for now, Andy

I see that the Netherlands are being rebuilt in various places.

I had a look at Delft via Google Street View and what a difference there is next to the Old Town Centre.

I wonder if Murphies Heroes will ever find premises for their (normally) annual show after the pandemic cools down. Great little show.

Glad you move went well. As Fred says an interesting time to move.

Just looked up where you are on a map, and that's very north for a small country, May I ask what led you to move there?
