Given the battering some parts of the country are getting, I hope those in the eye of the storm are all OK. I went for a walk this afternoon (40mph winds forecast) and it wasn't too bad, with some branches down here and there. Since then it has got very, very windy here in Bristol.

It's bloody blowy here, have to check the fences before I let the hound out. And for wood shavings blown in my eye refilling the chickens laying bit.

Pretty windy in Huntingdon.  Lost a row of runners beans.

Still windy in Bucks, but much less than yesterday afternoon!

It's dropped to almost nothing, now. :-bd

It WAS fairly horrendous yesterday.
I really had to lean into it, after going down the drive to check the post box. (But then, I am built like a stick insect.)

All is quiet today and I even managed to spray some figures when I let the hens out!

Next door neighbour has a row of *massive* Leylandii which not only block the sun from half the road but also now look alarming like they're going to come down at some point and destroy something crucial. Like three peoples houses. Anyone know a good guerrilla tree surgeon in the West Midlands (NOT Phil, I know he's handy with a knife but they're a bit more than thumb size and he's a bit far off :D)?!

From memory you can ask for Leylandii to be cut back to 6' (maybe 8') due to their 'invasive' nature. Worth checking with the local council.

On the walk yesterday I did get blown to a standstill at one point. Steady breeze now and off to repair damage to various plants in the garden.

Typical October day here, light wind, no rain.

I'm 95% certain that Steve's right about that, Nathan. :-bd

When Von & I lived near Newark, we were in a conservation area.
If we wanted to have anything done to the trees in the 'garden', we had to have the council's 'tree man' out.

We had about a dozen Leylandii trees, which the neighbours (and we) hated.....I guess they were 20-25 feet high.
Call tree man out.....He didn't even bother to get closer than 50 yards. "Leylandii ?...You don't even have to ask...Take 'em out."

One neighbour came round with his chainsaw, another neighbour helped with making a MONSTER bonfire. First neighbour (a farmer) donated 5 gallons of red diesel.
Between us, we reduced those dozen trees to a pile of ash within 6 (?) hours.
Councils HATE Leylandii.

Cheers - Phil :)

Lovely stuff :D

Yeah, it's a question of how much do we want to wind up the neighbours. And I think these are a bit past giving him a hand with the chainsaw and bonfire, I'd be afraid of knocking someones house down let alone the fences they're by...

Given my gardening and handiwork capabilities, what could go wrong?!
