I think it's a joint effort between the UK, Ireland and the Netherlands. So yes, lots of Irish names, should also be some Dutch?

I remember the first of these named storms - Abigail. The BBC weather presenters were so excited about it I thought they were going to wet themselves live on TV.

Just back from a stay in a cabin (well more like converted caravan) in the west of Ireland over the weekend. Was fairly sure we were going to have the whole thing blow down around us. Thankfully it proved sturdier than in appeared. Some wild weather for sure!

As we are discussing storms what is the difference between a Hurricane and a Typhoon (any answers involving 100kts, or 8 Rkts will result in instant expulsion !!!)

They are called one or the other depending upon where they occur as they are both tropical storms.

Agreed. (very) Simply hurricane in the Atlantic, typhoon in the western Pacific. Wikipedia will have more details if you're that interested.

I see that now they've given a 'proper name' to the coronavirus......I'll be getting that wrong too.
I read it as Corvid, and wondered what they'd got against members of the crow family.  X_X
