If it's a strangulated hernia Phil, or you think it is, get down to A&E ASAP!!! I had an inguinal hernia op last month and one thing they said in advance was, you will know if it becomes strangulated as you'll feel bloody awful. The op is easy (mine was open surgery) but the recovery takes around 4 weeks before you feel you can do anything safely, then it's slowly building up the strength etc.

If it had lasted another half hour, at that level of pain...it would have been a trip to A&E......That's what the doc said to do anyway, Steve.

There was 'something stuck'.....

I think after kidney stones....that was the worst pain I've experienced.

The irony is that I could have had an op around 10 years ago.
TINY little hernia....size of a marble....But when the time came to go under the knife....It seemed to have basically 'healed'....So I turned the op down.
Nothing was picked up when I had all those CT & MRI scans.....and I'd basically forgotten all about it.

Sure it was moving dead sheep, which weighed more than me, that's done the damage.

That's why they used to steal live ones, it's much easier, but then we are talking about Phil!  :d

It wasn't !

But it's been behaving itself for the past 24 hours, so I'm feeling a LOT better ! :)

No idea when I'll be able to get the op..I've got to go and see a consultant (?) first...so I'm waiting for that letter to arrive.....then when will the appointment be, to actually see matey ?.....(I expect that'll be a good few weeks at the very least......Then it'll be going on the waiting list.

I shouldn't think I'll be actually under the knife for a long time......Sometime next Autumn ? (Said he, guessing wildly)
As it stands (at this moment in time).....It's not going to be classed as urgent, in the slightest.

I just hope I DON'T have to go in as an emergency...if it plays silly b*ggers.

I had to go private in the end as basically it appears nigh on impossible to get a hernia operated on by the NHS, short of an emergency admission for a strangulated one. All of the doctors and nurses I spoke to thought it was a completely bonkers situation :(. Fingers crossed for you Phil.

That sounds about right.

I'm sure I read....(or heard on the radio) that bulk standard hernia ops were basically a 'no-no' on the NHS now..(to save money...which is fair enough)....And that the only ones that got done were likely to be 'emergency' ones.

It MAY be slightly different, here in Wales.....At least I've made the effort to get it sorted. ;)

At the mo' I'm feeling fine...A tiny bit 'iffy' yesterday...but nothing more.
I can certainly cope with it at this level.
