Just got the us airborne finished! With the boots being the later issued buckleboots, i decided to make them up for market garden. The uniform colour might just not be "green" enough, but i like it!

hq (with carrier pidgeon  :D ) and sniper team

bazooka team and two bar gunners

.30 cal, with the always usefull dice frame (the last one in my stash actually)

paras with smg's

paras with m1 garand

paras with m1 carbine

So,adding 30 model means: 181 models painted and 7 forces done:

1) pirates   20
2) privateers 10
3) British forces to battle the pirates 19
4) bolt action USMC  33
5)  bolt action IJA 33
6) bolt action germans 21
7)   bolt action US airborne 30
8 ) deadzone marauder warband 8-9?
9) deadzone plague zombies mob 30
10) unknown

On to the next ones!!

Really great looking figures, Peter! See you decided to make them 101st.
Encumbered by Idjits, we pressed on

Peter, they look good and yep, all the troops who jumped and glidered into market Garden wore an American flag, either as a full arm band or as just the flag. It was also not uncommon for a trooper to take the full arm band and fold it so just the flag showed and then pin the whole thing on their shoulder. Just FYI, here is a picture of the shoulder flags I had in my collection. The one center right is the truly rare one - being a gauze flag worn by the 82nd on D-Day. They are so fragile that not a lot of them survived. Usually only when  trooper took his off and stuffed it in a pocket after he landed or had some extras. The one middle right is form Operation Desert Storm given to me by a trooper in he 101st. One of my Market Garden flags still had the safety pin they came with, again which is a little rare. At least thee will give you an idea of what the various types looked like.s

Thanks Guys!

Terry, looks like there was quite some variation. It certainly was different from today. We are so used to everything being mass produced, really shows  it was a different age!

Really great looking figures, Peter! See you decided to make them 101st.

Didn't spot that comment earlier.

I just find the patches of the 101st the coolest, so i just went with them. When in doubt, apply the "rule of cool" !

Terry37

Peter, I am really loving your project, as airborne was a real passion of mine for many years. Yes, the 101st patch is very cool. The images below show most of the many variations from WWII (the first two pictures) while the third are from the Vietnam War with most being in theater made, thus the really ugly looking patches.

The patch second from the left top row below is a very rare Type 8 patch. They usually go for $1,200 to $1,500+ USD. I was fortunate to be able to trade for the one I had.

And here are the Vietnam patches. The four to the right on the bottom row were made by the 82nd to jab he 101st. They are called the "Choke Chicken" and "Worry" patches.

Now that you have these images to go by I am sure you will want to enhance the patches on your figures to represent them properly!!!!  ;D Yeah, like you'll tell me to be sure I get the regimental numbers correctly done on the buttons of my French Napoleonic Infantry!!!!

Nah, just sharing them because of your interest,

Terry
