Smoking gun

1: best new rules/game you played?

Wings of War.

2: worst new rules/game you played?

N/A

3: best purchase you did this year?

20mm Mounted Cossacks to complete my WW2 cossack battalion.

4: worst purchase you did this year?

BKC 3

5: most expensive purchase this year? And did you regret it?

See 3 above, no.

6: game you played the most this year?

Rapid Fire, not my WW2 favourite rules but popular at the Grimsby club.

7: game you wish you had played more this year?

AK47 Republic

8: how many models did you paint (roughly)?

Exactly 3, 1/72 KV1's from The Works. Disassembled, stripped, cleaned up and painted in white wash for winter eastern front. Took just under a week.

9:wich unused models/games did you sell/trade?

Some "OO" Model railway, Airfix and Matchbox 1/76 kits, Scalextrics 24hr Le Mans set, Osprey and other books, Black Powder Rules, some Warmaster blister packs. Lots of generic books to charity.

10: would you review your year as a good year of wargaming, or did you want more?

Played many good and a couple of dire games. I'm under constant pressure from wife to reduce the stash (by 50%) by selling stuff (which is justified as I have far too much). Would like more time to paint and model as, overall, I don't feel I've contributed anything to this years wargaming activities.

Hopefully 2018 will be better.

Now they've knocked me down and taken it, that still hot and smoking gun.

May I point out that if there is a best, there must be a worst, even if you're running Bach against Mozart?
I don't drink coffee to wake up. I wake up to drink coffee.

I've really enjoyed reading though these posts, here are my thoughts

1: best new rules/game you played?
The Men Who Would be Kings - great little set.

2: worst new rules/game you played?
Tombstone - a Wild West skirmish sets, only played on Friday. Just too complex and fiddly.

3: best purchase you did this year?
Deep Cut Studios gaming mat

4: worst purchase you did this year?
Reaper Bones III - while not purchased this year, the figures finally arrived this year. And in the time between buying and arriving we have moved on from Fantasy skirmish games. Nothing wrong with the figures, just unlikely to get much use out of them.

5: most expensive purchase this year? And did you regret it?
Probably Blackgate Miniatures Ogre kickstarter. Haven't got the figures yet, but the shots of greens and pre-production casts look good.

6: game you played the most this year?
Hordes of War - out home brew Fantasy rules. Probably closely followed by mini epic our home brew sci-fi rules. Both allow big battles in an evening.

7: game you wish you had played more this year?
The Men Who would be Kings.

8: how many models did you paint (roughly)?
From an earlier count-up from a LAF thread, I got to 850, then released that I missed most of the farm aninmals, so probably 900, mainly 10mm

9:wich unused models/games did you sell/trade?
I don't think any

10: would you review your year as a good year of wargaming, or did you want more?
Real Life intruded heavily into this year, but still managed to get in a good number of games, and a fair bit of painting, both of which were a good means of relaxing.

It's entirely possible I have confused the time lines in my head!! I did go in big for a couple of kickstarters a few years ago - and rather regretted it due to the long delivery times meaning that by the time stuff arrived interest had waned.  Now I tend to go for smaller KS with fairly quick delivery windows.
