Bows

I have a question about the bows that are modelled on most of Pendraken's ranges.  In general they seem very...short.

Is there a reason for this?

In general i'd expect a bow to be 8-10mm long overall, but some seem to be barely 5mm.

If i could suggest one improvement to the figures in general it would be to increase the size of the bows being used by archer figures.

No reason, just the way the figures were sculpted I guess?  Which range are you looking at?  I know the Medieval bowmen are pretty much the right size, but some of the Ancients won't be.  The Gallic range springs immediately to mind.

Some of the fantasy ranges are similarly afflicted - skellies and orcs certainly. They also seem a bit on the thick side (the bows, not the orcs and skellies). It's on my 'to do oneday' list to replace the bows with brass wire. I can live without the wood grain!

What type of bow are you dealing with? Your average composite bow is a lot shorter than a longbow.

A few examples of the 'short fat' bows include:

Fantasy | Amazons | FA3

Fantasy | Amazons | FA6

Fantasy | Barbarians | FB2

Ancients | Gallic | AG4   (Actually this is quite a poor figure all round...)

Dark Ages | Norman | N5

Fantasy | Night Orcs | FNO3  (that's a BOW?!)

Fantasy | Wood Elves | FE1  (this one's almost unforgivable - wood elves should have fearsome bows!!)

Etc.

Some ranges have it right but many don't which is a real shame.   :(

The Fantasy ones are just the way they were designed, it should be fairly easy to replace them with wire though?

The Gallic figures, and the rest of the range really, are on the list of ones to be redone as we go forward, somewhere after the Republicans are done.

I'm not sure on the Norman guy, but he does have quite a small one... ;)
