We'd only have the army packs with us at the shows, but if you're heading along to Fiasco, let me know what you need and we should have time to get it cast up and packed into the van.
due to home commitments don't think I can risk going... Partner is due to give birth on Nov 3rd...

I think not going is a wise call ;)

Good luck with the baby :)

Congratulations to you and your partner, Moggy!

All the best for the event.

Is this your first? Or do you already know what you are getting in to? :-)

Not many things have given me more fun and pleasure than wargaming but my kids are up at the top of that list!

Yeah, probably not worth risking that...  Although it'd make a good story once the bruises went away!

Congratulations to you both.

I went to a Society of Ancients games day at the Tower of London the day after my eldest was born

While your partner is giving birth you will be called all the rude names under the sun ,   It will all be your fault and she will swear that she will not let you and your privates anywhere near her again

So there is no way your going to be in her good books for some time  so I think you should get your priorities right  - Go to Fiasco  :)

P.S If she storms out and goes to her mothers you will get much more sleep than Junior will let you have in the first few weeks. And you will get lots of time to paint your miniatures in peace.

This is Number 4 haha!! Although none of our previous have been terrible on a night time... And I keep trying to ship her to a factory in China but apparently they don't take whiney English women...

Congrats on the kids!

What scale are they, and whats the base size you keep them on?

Ive gone the "Justin Borges" route on the 30x60mm bases with 8-10 guys on it.  Skeles and Dragonmen FWIW

Ive separated the spears, halberds and swords for basically the same reason Lemmy said, and for aesthetics(I love ranks of congruous arms on the table)

I did end up with 2-3 of each out of the standard starter pack, and still have a few left to paint.   I almost cant bring myself to mix the Dragonmen or my skeles(former humans with their act together even into Undeath) like unruly plebs.    After all, what are the Peasant units for?

Mine will be on the 80/40 bases as I like the "big army" appeal to this scale...

Moogy,

Congrats for a November birth.  For your swordsmen and spearmen.  I know Leon does specials.  I have not played yet but I did pick up the pdf ruleset.  There is no avantages to either weapon.  Although if you face cavalry a 12 foot spear is better.  Looks better the rules don  t care.  Whatever make you comfortable with the army.  If you are fighting sword or axe armed men.  Sword and axe in the front ranks with spears in the rear.  Odd yes but I saw a programme viking re enactment maybe it is on you tube.  These guys swords the works and umpires.  When they hit each other it become a shoving match.  The guys with the spears had the most kills.  All they did was slide in between their rank and stab the enemy.  I am looking forward to seeing maybe some pics of your troops.

I'm a November baby myself. I just thought it might of been an idea to make "separate" ranks of warriors to perhaps expand the playset a little

jean1951

Moggy,

You may want to go with a diorama style base.  Two to three ranks of spearmen or swordsmen with one or two swordsmen in front as officers.  A pack of wood elves archers in front of your troops as skirmishers.  Let me know if the baby is born around 3rd of november.

Best regardes,

Jean

Guys.

Explain to a non gamer......(I never remotely have the time, I'm afraid.)....I just make the wee chaps for you to game with....I'm not jealous in the slightest. :^o :^o :^o :^o :^o :^o

Does it make a lot of difference on how many figures are on a base ?

I can understand the actual bases on opposing sides, needing to have the same frontage....But the number of figures ?

Do different rule sets need different numbers of models on each base ? (If yes.....I imagine that could be a complete pain.)

Genuine question, chaps.

Cheers - Phil

No difference what so ever, it's pure aesthetics sir!

Phil, some rule sets rely on the number of figures on a base to differentiate between troop types/ formations. Others, such as Warband, just need your opponent to be able to tell what the unit is. One figure in the middle of the base would do for the latter - though the aesthetic impact would be rather reduced!!
