Gave the new models a spin last night, togheter with my freshly made jungle terrain.

This was the table:

3 objectives, one on the biggest hill and 2 by the shacks.

Everything comes on the board turn one, but we got some forward deploying troops.
USMC sniper team

3 kamikaze bombers (only 2 in the pic,one in the bush and one behind the shack)

the IJA forces deploy an anti tank rifle and a small squad on their right.

and a small squad, mmg and a light mortar on their left

the USMC deploy a fire team, medic and the lieutenant in the bushes near the shacks

and a 30 cal team in a bush covering their left flank

with no idea where the enemy armour will be, they bring on the jeep containing the bazooka team in the center

marine raiders go left towards the objective.

the sherman is forced to come on first so chooses a central position, firing on the japanese mmg in the distance

with all the USMC units deployed, the shinhoto chi ha comes on, keeping a shack between it and the sherman. a big 'banzai' squad spots a gap in the defence and comes on on the left edge

the sniper team redeploys to stall the big squad

turn 2 starts with the raiders making a dash before anybody can fire on them

the bazooka team deploys and takes a shot at the chi ha but roll a 1 for penetration

the mmg shoots down the bazooka loader

the big squad of japanese advances and gets shot by the sniper team. (by advancing the squad now, the japanese were within 12", so forcing the sniper team to use their side arms thus negating their exceptional damage. tis means they can't pick out special troopers in the squad when they do wounds)

the anti tank rifle team throws caution to the wind and advances on the raiders

the sherman trains it's machinge guns on the japanese MMG

one of the small squads gets to the ridge of the hill and opens fire on the 30 cal team

when the team wants to fire back they remain pinned (failed order test)

a squad moves to the objective

and the shinhoto, having waited it's turn fails it's order test

beginning of turn 3 the sherman moves to reduce the threath of the big squad, while a lucky shot from the fire team annihilates the japanese mmg

the sniper team takes a shot at the japanese CO but fails to kill him

the squad on the hill finish of the 30 cal team

the bazooka fails again

the anti tank rifle team takes another shot at the raiders but only gives them a pin

in turn the raiders pepper them with smg/shotgun/BAR shots

the light mortar scores a kill on the rifle team, but the medic is nearby and saves the man by rolling a 6

the sniper team kills another man from the banzai squad

and another in the assault before being swamped

the rifle team stays pinned rolling 11 for morale

the sherman steps up to try to thin the numbers of the dangerously close japanese squad

the chi ha comes closer but misses with his gun

beginning turn 4 the chi ha misses again

the sherman gets a direct hit on the banzai squad with a HE shell

on the other side the japanese pop over the side of the hill and pepper the raiders point blank

and lose one of their number by return fire

the last of the squad die, shouting BANZAI but none reach their enemy before falling

the bazooka stuns the chi ha, and 2 japanese kamikazes runs towards the sherman, meanwhile the small IJA squad goes to sit on the objective

turn 5 starts with the chi ha failing the order test again

the sherman pivots, trying to shoot the kamikazes but fails

the raiders' shooting has no effect

while the first kamikaze is effective, and blows the track of the sherman, and jams the turret.

the small squad camping the objective shoot a marine

and the second kamikaze blows the sherman to pieces

on the right japanese flank the lmg drops a raider

in the center the bazooka jams the chi ha turret

the light mortar pins the rifle team and drops another marine

but they rally thanks to their commander nearby

and immediately after that the japanese command team kills another of their number

the last turn starts with the bazooka stuning the (stronger than expected) chi ha again

the small squad on the right japanese flank drop the last raider, freeing their side of the board of enemies

the last of the marines in the centre fail their order test, negating all hope of at least contesting one of the three ojectives.

Game ends with all 3 objectives in japanese hands!! Guess throwing enough bodies forward sometimes does the trick  :o :o :o

All looks great. What did you think of the mechanics for f the game?

Was not too bad, but not the best either.

Weapon ranges feel a little bit short, but i tried it in 10 mm a while ago and the ranges 'feel' better in that scale.

Easy rules to get to grip with are a big plus though! I got into bolt action for playing it in my group, and we have a few very casual gamers, so was looking for something on the simpler side of the rules spectrum. For that , Bolt Action is  a perfect match!

Jarkko uses a house rule of beyond maximum becomes extreme and -2 to hit (on top of cover and moving).

Not bad  :-\

Will try that one  :D

Looking good, Peter, thanks for posting buddy!  For whatever faults it may or may not have, I always thought Bolt Action had a very clever Command and Control/Activation system.  Quick, easily understood, with plenty of decisions regarding prioritization to be made.

Jack

Thanks!

Yes that is  one of the strong points of the system. Priorities change throughout the turn, as things get activated.together with the random activation, this makes it a good game for a solo scrap!

bigjackmac

Yep, I played a whole campaign with a pared down version of Bolt Action years ago, Pendraken US paras vs German Wehrmacht in Sicily, lots of fun.

So hurry up with your next batrep! ;)

Patience, patience, my friend. just received the starter box today, so first we need to assemble the germans and the paras  :D :D :D

(and the farmhouse, really need the farmhouse)

In al honesty, the paras and germans are of less interest to me, as i started bolt action to do the pacific, a conflict i hadn't done before. (i prefer to keep to one scale for one theatre/period, enough to do already without doing things double)

But they have already been reassigned for use with 5 men in normandy, where the amount of models in the starter box will be more then enough!

bigjackmac

Excellent Peter, and you're motivating me to get back to my WWII USMC.  Though I'm always looking forward to guys playing 5 Men in Normandy.

On a side note, I'm not exactly sure why, what it is about it, but one of my favorite battle reports to read on the entire internet is your Normandy fight using the "Useme" rules.  Every now and again I'll go back and give them another read through, but I just went again and all the pictures are gone!!!???

How will I carry on!!??  Dammit!!!!   :'(  :'(

That really sucks...

Looks a fun and furious game :D

I agree with the scale comment - I actually quite like BA as a game, barring the scenarios (most of which were bad, and promoted a "WW2 in 40K" play style...), but we play in 15mm usually which looks sooooooo much better!

Yes, my main interest would have been to do it in 10mm, because I have all the kit already.

But one of the group members wanted to do Japan vs china, so I bought marines and Japanese. He would buy the Chinese.

Lucky I bought two opposing armies, as he already said he doubts he will get the Chinese as he has enough on the painting desk already.
