I should like to stress that the use of a rather non-PC label was at the choice of my wife, who is herself one of them and says she's allowed to be racist about her own ancestors.

Here we see some Xiong-nu barbarian auxiliaries, formerly Pendraken Mongols. Also the celebrated Dim Sum Yai fortified temple. The pagoda can be lifted out and used as a simple BUA component. The dragons are sheer fantasy, of course; no way could contemporary Chinese have cast bronze on that scale.

The command chariots, and a few halberdiers. A mix of Reiver and Newlines.

Ch'i picked men; sort of Spring and Fall era commando unit. Unhappily unarmoured archers concealing them.

Very nice; I like the temple.

Crossbowmen, and more halberdiers.

And some heavy cavalry making a first appearance in Chinese warfare.

Ta. It has made an appearance on these pages before this (some disrespectful Sinophobe said it looked like a Dalek raygun...not inaccurately, it must be conceded).

Good stuff, very colourful.

Have you thought about doing a bit more to the bases? A bit of texture and flock would lift the look a lot, it's particularly noticeable on the ex-Mongols due to the low figure density.

I see your point. If I get a textured base cloth some day, I'll do up the bases a bit. But until then, I don't like little rectangles of lawn on a green sheet.

Yes, you don't want the bases leaping out from the table covering.

But I'd still go for adding some sand, and painting that green, with a light dry brush. Your table cloth has a bit of variation to it, and seems darker than the green bases. It's really the light cavalry that stand out. The rank and file, due to troop density blend in much more.

They're very nice but let down by the bland basing - I take your point but don't agree with it  :P

Good basing dramatically improves the playing pieces and this hobby is all about the visual splendour.

If your base mat is not up to standard replace it - don't drag nice painting down to the lowest common denominator  :D
