It does a bit, I have to agree there, I've no idea how they manage to keep track of it all.  I think if we'd gone a day earlier/later we'd have seen the forces more spread out and a bit less cluttered as they moved into position.

Impressive to see - almost dizzyingly so. I do think of the many cases of backache such a game would produce.

Thats both impressive and crazy. I can't actually see how a game like that would be fun, with just so much stuff to move, and the only move available being to plod forwards.

I thought that my gaming group had some big armies, but frankly this makes us look like beginners

It is really impressive.

Unfortunately the table is suffering from war-game clutter: reams of paper, plastic containers, styrofoam cups (?). It does rather detract from what I'm presuming is supposed to be a magnificent spectacle. The problem of the massive game that takes up every inch of space is where to put al the non-model material needed to run a game. I find myself fighting more smaller in area games, but still on a 6x4 so that there is room for charts, rulebooks, pens, paper, dice, coffee cups, etc.

That seems eminently sensible, Leman. While I find that I am committed to playing my Celtic Fringe historic battles on a 6' x 4' (which uses every square inch - with some overhang - of my largest table), I then must setup auxillary tables just to hold all the other necessary stuff!
I'm in the process of discovering the joy of playing on a 3 x 3. Heck, I finally even broke down and bought a battle mat!

Blimey - the real thing only took 12 hours, not 3 days! If I had the luxury of a whole week to wargame, I'd want to get a lot more than two games in. More like twenty, please. (We fought the entire 9-battle Franco-Prussian War BBB campaign in a 3-day weekend once.)

But I suppose it's a bit like all the different formats of cricket. Not many people get to see every day of a 5-Test Ashes series and while for some it would be the pinnacle, not every cricket fan would want to, or maybe just once would be enough, while plenty of people prefer one-dayers, some only like 20/20, and then to get the kids involved there is Kwik Kricket ... (apologies to any members who don't have a clue what I'm talking about).
